I think I might have truncated a few too many hairs when I was cutting my fringe. Some hairs that I thought would be part of the fringe are moving to the side. I did predict the 'fringe line' when I was cutting, but my hair is so unpredictable the way it sits. It's possible that I might have overestimated the fringe line, but it was my first time cutting it, so live and learn. So there are about 2 or 3 strings/strands/sections of hair that are significantly shorter than the others(about 4 inches as opposed to around 6-7 inches). They appear to flyaway and look rather awkward on my head. I guess I will just have to let them grow out again, although they will always be a little shorter than the rest of the hair. ATM, my goal length is shoulder length and I'm already over the halfway mark to achieving it. I can't let something small like this discourage me(yes, I am neurotic). The fringe looks good though and is helping me immensely get through the awkward stage. Furthermore, since I don't plan to wear the ponytail style very often the shorter hairs near the front really bother me, I can just slick them back with gel and be done with it(same as the fringe).
Ever since I switched to natural conditioner(cone free) I am getting great results and my hair looks very healthy and hydrated, at last I've found the winning combination for my hair!
Next time I will have to take extra care with the fringe line to ensure I don't cut any hair that shouldn't be cut.
This photo depicts the fringe. It is still wet in this photo and I applied mousse to my hair to give it volume and enhance the curls, which is something I do only occasionally to prevent drying of the hair/build-up. Laugh at the funny pose/lame attempt at facial concealment. LOL.
With hair as curly as yours I don't know how you can actually find the fringe line and doing the cut yourself must make it that much harder. If I were you I'd skip the fringe unless you knew and trusted someone who knows how to perform such a cut.I suppose if you are only going for shoulder length making a mistake won't take that long to correct in that you don't need to recover much length.Anyway I hope you achieve the look you desire as long as its long:)

Pardon my ignorance, but I'm a little lost on the terminology. When you speak of "fringe" are you talking about cutting bangs to frame your face? If so, it looks ok the way it is. If you're going for shoulder length, then the shorter locks will eventually catch up to the longer ones as you trim them to keep the shoulder length.
Fringe = (UK term for bangs..what a silly word bangs that is!)
"..what a silly word, bangs, that is!..."
Says the guys who enjoys "Bangers & Mash" ??
Oh yes we like our Bangers and mash and of course plenty of grave and onions.
Wasn't there a musical about the longhair with fringe on top? Or am I confused... [wink]

I sure love the curls in your hair. With the curls, though, it is hard to find a fringe line, my suggestion for you is simply to let your super curly hair grow and not cut it anymore. Obviously, curly hair is more difficult to maintain. Whenever you feel the need to cut your hair because it is "out of control", take a few deep breaths and concentrate on your breathing instead. This will distract you from thinking about haircuts. At this point, the hairs on your front may not make it in a ponytail yet so placing bobby-pins near the front can help hold the front hairs in place, so it does not get in the way of your face. It may actually work better than gel. I did that when I was going through my awkward phase.

Just take care mate but it looks great to me. You know it will make "all one length gang" very jealous :-)
Cheers,
John.
I informed my sister about my concern and she said it was really nothing to worry about and that I did a reasonably good job cutting my fringe. She basically got the scissors and trimmed a little bit off the front-sides and side of the hair, kind of like "layering the hair". These hairs were infact part of the fringe line but I got scared and stopped cutting near the sides of the forehead due to fear of cutting the wrong hair or too much hair. So these strands were infact supposed to be cut to give an even fringe line and shape the hair. My fringe looks very stylish and it kind of merges together with the rest of the hair as it is now 'layered'. After much apprehension and uncertainty, I then let her do it because of her persistence. She was very neat and precise and didn't take too much length off. I will now leave the front at this length and get a periodic trim(maybe every 2-3 months) of the front sides and fringe(bang) from her, or attempt it myself, as I continue to grow my hair. As another benefit, the hair is also not in my face and I can wear it out all the time.
Will probably post an update shortly to show you guys the new style and look of it. Cheers.
Well that's great your sister was able to fix your hair to your liking. At least if she messed it up or cut off too much hair you have the ability to make her life miserable since she is your sister:)It;s good to have a hair stylist who you can trust.Looking forward to your pics!Cheers
