Hi,
When I was about 10 I tried to grow my hair out... but I kept playing with it all the time so we had to get it cut. Fast forward some years, and somewhere around my 16th birthday in October 2009 I decided that I wanted to grow my hair out. That picture was taken today, so that's about 4 months progress (with one trim in there). Now for the questions!
1. One of the reasons I wanted to grow my hair out was to see if my hair would curl. (My dad's hair curls like mad, but my mom's hair is straight.) But I can't tell if my hair is curling or not. I have that weird 'swoosh' thing on the left and my bangs/fringe is sort of curling. So is my hair curly, wavy, or just some weird cowlicks or something?
2. I have been debating as to what length I should let my hair grow. I was originally going for some sort of surfer/skater/shag look, but I have read some pretty inspirational stories online and am considering growing it out to something longhair-ish: shoulder length or a bit longer. Which style would look better on me? A factor to consider is that my hair is quite thick. I am also concerned that if I do something without bangs/fringe my large forehead would be distracting, but I don't really want shoulder length hair with bangs/fringe.
Can't think of anything else at the moment, so suggestions and constructive criticism is welcome. Tell me what you think!
P.S. Sorry about the bad picture, but it's the best one from my crappy iPhone camera.
It's too early to tell if your hair is curling. My hair is curly and it did the swoosh thing but more swooshier than yours. I think at the very least your hair will be very wavy.
Or we could wait and see if I'm wrong or right.
Your hair must grow very fast. It is looking longish already!
You will just have to wait and see, this is part of the excitement of growing hair. The longer I grow my hair I'm amazed at the volume and intensity of the curls. I never even knew this until I started growing it.
Hard to say, more of a personal decision. For me personally, I think long hair can only enhance a man's appearance and the longer the better. I do like short fringes and sport one myself. It does make my hair alot more manageable too, especially in this dread awkward stage(which is prolonged with my hair type).
Hair fads and trends do not interest me. Long hair in essence is classic and timeless.
I can't fault you or your hair.
They actually have rather good cameras from what I've seen, compared to other mobile cameras. Maybe poor lighting?
He'res another photo... in my Taekwondo outfit no less. Either I can't hold the phone still or it just gets real grainy when cropped. This was from today and it shows what my hair looks like when it hasn't been brushed to death.
Also, I just remembered that I was talking about what my hair would look like when it was longer when we where at the neighborhood swimming pool, which would date my growth to something more around 6-7 months. Sorry! :-)
Oh yeah, and I am currently taking 5,000mcg of biotin everyday along with my multivitamin. Any other, supplements, shampoos, or anything I should do?
It is unnecessary to take any additional vitamins or supplements
unless your body requires them, not for hair!
It may help maximise the growth rate though.
Welcome Blane!
Let it grow out naturally for a good while and see whose hair genes you've got.
The journey should be an interesting one.
