Hello all,
I was finally able to take a pic of my current hair. As you can see the split ends are towards the bottom where it is stringy. Ive been arguing with my sister about it haha! Should I trim these ends now or wait till my goal length? As you can see the healthy hair is more or less at the midpoint. However if I cut all of the ends off that puts me behind like 4 months in terms of growing! whats a guy to do?!

Your ends are stringy indeed; choice is yours, though : if your hair is manageable and if the look pleases you, keep it for a little while. Otherwise, trim. Obviously, it will be a lot shorter and send you back to the (a more) awkward stage...

Yet another metalhead, sweet! As Vivien stated, you can trim you'd like, choice is yours. If you do trim, I would start using oil from the ears down. Either as a prewash condition or a little bit afterwards to help the length & ends cooperate more.
Nice hair man, and its totally up to you whether you trim it or not. If you don't like the look of the stringy ends then I would say trim em, most likely they will grow out with the rest of your hair that isn't quite that long. If you don't mind the look or like it though then keep them scizzers away!
Hey DM, nice photo. Wear the split ends proudly. I'm trying to do the same. Now that my hair is gaining length, don't want scissors anywhere near my head. I just use extra conditioner and jojoba oil and it seems to do well.
If it were me I'd trim. You don't want the damage travelling too far up your hair so you'll end up losing more length....
IMO - I would trim the stringy ends. They don't look good and as someone already said, the damage could extend to the whole length of hair. I prefer quality over length, anyday. A cutback to over shoulder length, or whereabouts, will make it look heaps better. Hopefully with good hair care advice you will not have to do this in the future.
I'll personally trim if it were my hair as I cannot stand split ends as it makes combing out more tiresome with some length breaking off and they look plain awful.
