Hello Everyone,
Google Archives is a good source, to look up articles about long hair on men, even before the sixties, (news.google.com - advanced search - archive search). A lot of free articles can be found, from defunct newspapers, and library microfilm reels.
Here I am uploading an article about the House of David baseball team, dated from august 6 1929, two days after my mom was born :)
Enjoy.
Have to say when I saw that pic I wondered if it was a cult.. google brought up this

each to their own imo :)
Thanks Georges! That's very interesting. I get real tired of so many people thinking that longhair never existed before the 60's!

Hi, Paul. This sect had a large following in Australia, where they were known as British (or Christian) Israelites. Their main centre was in Ryde with other groups in Singleton and Kempsey, all in New South Wales.
The Aussies seem to have tied their hair up and I can't recall seeing any with flowing locks. The guys all wore beardsand often married outside the sect. I went to school in Kempsey with the daughters of one family. That was in the heyday of short back & sides. I envied them!
That's a cool article Georges, I grew up in Michigan City Indiana just a 40 minute drive from Benton Harbor. Indeed an interesting article and it does show we long hairs have been around ages.

Hi Georges,
Always an inspiration to see those House of David baseball team photos, I've seen many of them, and I never get tired of them, -- in fact, I just wish I could see MORE!!!
As Paul said, it's also always good to be reminded of the fact that the history of long hair on men was NOT first dated as occurring starting in the 1960s; but has been a fact of nature from as far back as the very beginning of recorded human history.
The men in those House of David pics look so stunning, so completely natural and even "normal" to me, and so hands-down HANDSOME that way.... makes me wonder sometimes what in the hell must be so wrong about our so-called Western Society mindset as to make most men not want to immediately grow their hair out just as long as theirs!
[sigh...]
Thanks, Georges, for giving me the uplifting reminder that there ARE, as well as ALWAYS HAVE BEEN, men who think it completely normal and natural to grow their manes to such magnificent maximum lengths!
