I poked around in the archives and found some indirect references to hats, but am curious about the general consensus on the effects of hat wearing on hair.
Will wearing a baseball hat on a regular basis damage my hair, or is it a non-issue? I'd like to be able to keep it under wraps sometimes when it gets unruly looking and a hat seems like an obvious choice.
Well Kevin, I think I'm qualified to answer this since I'm a hat wearer a lot of the time.Anytime I'm at work the hat goes on to protect my hair from tangles and also to prevent it from getting caught up in moving parts!YIKES!In all the years I've done this there has been no negative effects to my hair.I'm sure if there were any I would have noticed it years ago.So feel free to hat your hair if your feel it needs protection from the elements. If I never wore a hat I can imagine the damage from years of exposure would have been.Especially as long as I like it to be:)
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, Mark.
I shall wear my hat without fear.
Howdy Mark!
I agree fully with your comments, above. I have also worn many many hats, both on my gardening/ landscaping jobs, and also a requirement at my cooking job (either a hat, or a hair net in the kitchen, according to food safety and health standards -- even if my hair was short!!)...
I also occasionally will wear a cowboy hat when I go out C&W dancing, tucking my long segmented ponytail underneath. Whenever someone I know from the dance community sees me that way, sometimes I'll get the question, "Did you cut off your long hair?" My favorite way to answer that question is to smile without saying a word, then take off my hat, letting my hair spill out across my shoulders and down my back... It's all part of the fun!

Other than sometimes leaving (hat hair...sort of like bedhead) hat should not damage hair and actually provide protection in harsh conditions....personally, I think hats add something to the longhair look.....(I of course I am biased)
