So, after lurking here for a while I've finally decided to grow my hair out. I've only had one trim since the end of summer just to even everything out. This pic is about a month old, so the front is just starting to reach my eyes now. This is the longest I've ever had my hair before. Do you guys have any advice for a first timer?
My advise is rather simple: Just keep staying away from having haircuts -- unless, of course, going in for a slight trim will be "the lesser of two evils" (meaning, the GREATER EVIL would be to decide to just give up entirely and "throw in the towel" by returning to short hair before giving long hair a fair chance)!
My other tidbit of advise is also rather simple: just keep coming back here to MLHH, checking this board as often as you have the time for, reading as much as you can that we write (including checking out our Links page, which has some extremely helpful and informative stuff there)...
Ummmm... I guess I also have one more additional tidbit of advise, since I definitely speak from experience about the following issue: grow your hair out NOW, while you are still YOUNG!!!! I didn't experience my first ponytail until I reached my 40th birthday... For heaven's sake, DON'T WAIT THAT LONG!!! Time is ticking away (and hair gets thinner and greyer as we age, -- which can happen when you suddenly look in the mirror one day, shocked that it has come upon you so suddenly)... Although to me, long hair is definitely a joy even at my age (56), I still wish I had grown it out now when I was younger -- before I had a receding hairline, and before my honey-blonde locks started turning Santa Claus white!!
OK, 'nough said! "Onward & downward, men!!"

My advice for now is start looking into hats/caps, because it's going to start annoying you soon. It takes a while to get through the awkward stage, but a bit of patience is all it takes to get by. Try to resist the temptation to trim while in the awkward stage; all that achieves is to prolong it.
Good luck with growing it out. Keep in touch.
Hi Majin19,
Welcome to the board and thank you for posting:)The advise that comes to mind would be to give your hair a chance to blossom and try avoiding tinkering too much with it regarding maintainance trims. You have made a good start in your journey as your hair has great potential. Please do keep us up to speed on your progress.Cheers
