  I would describe a ponytail as hair pulled straight back, and tied at the middle to lower middle of one's head.

  What's the name for hair that is so long it can just be tied at the base of the neck, shoulder-length?

  I can't think of another name for this other than ponytail, but their must be a name.

    Yes, that's still a ponytail. I have had mine like that for 7 years and everybody calls it a pontail.

    I did once see a style which was not tied at the neck but worn loose to the middle of the back where it was tied once. What would you call that style?
