Hi - Just curious what people's attitudes were like toward men with long hair in Texas? I plan on relocating there soon and was curious - I've read that many schools there have a short hair only policy for boys, and that of course the state is more conservative in general. Just wondering what I should expect - I'm from NY, and no one really cares here. My hair is about chin length, a little shorter on the sides (maybe 1" below the bottom of my ear).
Thanks, Dave
To be honest I think people always exagerate about Texas, that being said, you have to consider that urban and suburban areas are completeky different from rural ones. Rural Texas completely lives up to it's reputation. The closer you get to the big cities the better. I happen to like Texas a lot, but yes, even in big cities people are very different, however you can see more people, mostly young teens to young adults with long hair. Don't fear change, just prepare for it and take advantage of new opportunities.
Well I've lived in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area all my life-- most of that time with long hair. I think by the last couple of decades it's become pretty much a non-issue for most people. There do seem to be the occasional bone-headed outlying school system that makes the news, but that's really the exception and not the rule. I live in one of the more conservative suburbs and I see high school guys with shoulder length hair all the time. As for myself, I haven't experienced anything I'd call long hair discrimination since the '70s.
I live in Arlington (between Dallas and Fort Worth) - I see quite a lot of long-haired guys, young and old, here too.
Fellow longtime MLHH'er "Doomlord" lives in Dallas (last I recall).

From what we see in the news the attitude seems to be very much against it. I have seen several things pop up about poor kids in Texas being forced to cut their hair.
I lived in Texas but I was in the Army at the time so I had short hair and didn't really notice one way or the other. I will say that I hated my time there, at Fort Hood. The weather sucks, the crime rate is high and the police wait outside bars to pick up people for public intoxication. If I had to go west I'd take I40 through Amarillo so I'd go through as little as possible of Texas.

Oh Paul as we know it's that big flag things and ex-republic stuff again in schools. Prove me wrong lol!
