First, a bit of an introduction:
My name is Caleb, and I'm currently a college student in Louisiana.
Throughout high school, I've always fluctuated between a relatively medium length side-swoop hairstyle (as much as I hate to compare it like this, think of typical teen boy-bands hairstyles) and buzzing it (simply for convenience).
Not too long ago, I decided to continue growing out my hair (was already at medium length) so that I could donate it to what I thought to be a worthy cause at the time: L.O.L. A few months later (unsure of how long it's been), I stumbled on some interesting articles on various internet pages about the practices of L.O.L.
Since then, I've decided to grow out my hair just because I've never had it long, and I think I would enjoy it.
Now, onto the meat of this post:
How am I supposed to style my hair to keep it decent and out of my face while it's growing out? Right now I look like 'it' from the Addams Family, and my only counter to it is to constantly wear a beanie cap. I don't like putting product into my hair at all, other than conditioner and the occasional shampoo.
Also, I'll follow-up with a picture of my hair just hanging with no cap.
(I already looked through many posts to see if any contained tips such as this before posting, so I apologize if this is a standard/annoying question. I think I'm safe though; it's not in the RAQ.)
Hi Caleb, and welcome to the famous men's longhair board:)Good thing you found us as we can be your inspiration in achieving the goal of being a longhair.Your pic looks great and that cap certainly will keep your awkward stage hair at bay.I'd rather do that too, if I was at your stage, rather than to glop in tons of product.May be a bit hot in the summer for the beanie but then switch to a cotton baseball cap until you can ultimately tail your hair.Anyway glad you showed us your hair and smiling face.Oh btw, you have a very cool name:)I'm sure others will chime in here to offer their opinions so stay tuned my friend and as the saying goes...."Keep it Growin'"Cheers

Hang in there through the awkward stage. I'm glad I did. Very soon your hair will grow on you in the mindste it's what you were meant to do. Good luck!

I'm quite overdue for a shave, and I apologize for the low quality of the picture. My hair typically lays flat, and one side of the front is longer due to way it was cut in the past (to facilitate the swoop).
Also, thanks for the warm welcome, Hairball. ^_^

The pics are a bit dark but still shows your hair well my friend.Actually that's a very cool style you have Caleb,I really think it looks cool. You certainly have wonderful hair for growing long.Glad to hand out the welcomes to our longhaired friends:)Hope to see much more of you here.Cheers

Headbands/bandannas are pretty good for keeping your hair out of your face.
Picture is a true Cousin Itt impression ;-)
Going nicely :-) Glad to hear you found out about the practises of L.O.L before it was too late! Even better that you decided to carry on anyway. The cap will help meanwhile while you wait for it to get out of the awkward stage - it'll seem like forever but it will be a few months.
Haaahaha, I love the picture. XD
you can always split your hair to the sides/push it back when its wet, which kinda forces it to dry in that manner and will usually stay like that naturally for the rest of the day. Either way you only look like your a month or two away from your bangs naturally parting to the sides of your face and out of your eyes. I mean, they will always be in your eyes if you look downwards or whatever, but not blinding you as you walk out and about. ;]
Hi Caleb and welcome.
The best I can do for advice is borrow someone elses. I added a link below to a site by our Former tech crew Wizard Bill who wrote extensively on the subject. The area your going to want to go first is Part 3 which is what I linked.
Hopefully this helps a bit.

On Being a Longhair - part 3
Hi Caleb,
I totally understand not wanting to put any gel or mousse or hair spray in your hair, as I always hated those products myself (although I do have to admit to giving in a few times during my own awkward stages era - LOL)....
Try bandanas or sweat head bands, and most certainly other kinds of hats or caps also work incredibly well. As we get more and more into the hotter weather of summer (assuming you live in the Northern Hemisphere), beannie caps might be a bit warm on your head. Another idea that has worked for guys during their awkward stages is to tie your bangs back into what is called a "half-tail". I used to fear that I'd look way too stupid doing that; but my second time of growing my hair out (which was after a short haircut back n Y2K), I no longer cared how others would view me -- and so actually grew to like the half-tail quite a bit!
Unfortunately I don't have a pic of myself with that (although I might be able to find a behind-shot from a website that has it that I know of); but if you go to Jason's website, he probably would have a half-tail pic there.
Take care, and again, your hair looks GREAT!!!!
