Hello Everyone!
Last post I promised to start braiding, and some of you wanted to see some pictures of that. So here it is, my first OK-looking braid, a simple 3-strand. Still kind of rough, but some more practice will fix that, hopefully. I'm not used to working behind my head and my arms get tired. It is really fun though.
Other than braiding during the weekend, I have also read this board. Seeing people post about their sites inspired me to make one of my own (hurrah for free blog providers). I'll primarily be posting the different hairstyles I'm going to try out, so drop by if you feel like it, link is below.

Hi Mark!
Thanks for your comment. I switched off comment moderation, so any future comments should appear right away from now on.
Joining the family you say. I have thought about it, but will wait a little while. I have quite a bit going on right now since I am moving to Japan this Sunday (4/4) for studies, so most internet activities will be on hold for me for a week or two. After that though...

Hi Sebasthian,
Don't worry about joining right away as you do need to take care of business. That's quite a move you have ahead of you.I certainly wish a safe trip to Japan for you and success in your studies. We'll be here waiting for you when things settle down and you have more time to devote to the internet.I'll look forward top future hair updates from Japan:)Be safe my friend.Cheers

The braid looks great. Just lovely. I checked out your blog. Your hair is of very high quality. You should grow it to your waist, if possible.

I'll keep it growing a bit more, maybe all the way to terminal since it would be fun to know how long hair I can get.

Hi Sebasthian,
Your braid looks GREAT!! I know what you mean about your arms getting tired, though; so I'll pass along a method of braiding that a friend of mine showed me how to do several years ago....
After you accomplish the first two or so sets of over-and-under moves of all three hair sections into a braid, as it starts to get more difficult to reach, simply bend at your waist and turn yourself upside-down. Your hair is going to turn upside-down WITH you, of course -- so hang onto that braid that you've accomplished so-far with a good firm grip!
Once you are hanging upside-down, you'll have to continue relying on your sense of FEEL for continuing the same pattern of braiding as you started in the beginning; but, as the saying goes, "Practice makes perfect!". It actually becomes quite easy to do, once you get the hang of it initially. I've even done it in places like: waiting at the bus stop; as a passenger in a car; in a hurry when I was late in attending a formal event, and many other similar odd situations.
Some people also recommend taking the braid to one side or the other of your body in front in order to complete the braid that you started in back; but I usually get better results by turning myself upside-down in order to finish my own self-made braids.
Give it a try, and let us know how it goes!

Hello Ken
Thanks for the advice, I tried your method and I think it may work after some practice sessions. It is easier on the arms at least. I just have to get used to working in unusual positions.
About relying on FEEL for braiding: I learned how to braid with yarn and such as a kid (OK, younger kid ^_^) and I still have the basics stuck in my hands, even though it's ~8 years or more since I last braided. Muscle memory is quite amazing.

For those who are less coordinated - like myself, the 2 strand rope braid is dead simple and quick to do and looks great.
I learned how to do it from a YouTube video from Torrin Paige - the queen of hair tutorials. I've also taken 2 rope braids and rope braided them together to make a "hawser" braid. Torrin - who has lots more hair than me has taken that one step further and braided together 2 hawser braids to make a cable braid (nautical/rope terms if you are wondering).
But the 2 strand rope braid remains my favourite and I can do it in seconds now.
