John posted this question a few days ago, but I haven't visited in a few days, so here goes...
His question: "Oh yeah, about the don't sleep on your hair comment. Its too short to worry right now, but I have been wondering when it gets that length where my rolling in my sleep could be bad whats a good way to restrain it without driving me nuts for trying to sleep?"
My method is a segmented ponytail, using some fairly loose fabric hair-ties (similar to the "scrunchies" many women use). These hair-ties fit a bit looser than the ones I use during the day, which (for me) makes them perfect for sleeping on. When I've used my standard hair-ties I found the tighter fit tended to pull on my scalp and/or make a more rigid lump under my back if I laid on the tail.

Ah I gotcha, thanks. i wasnt quite sure on that one lol
Is it an absolute necessity to not sleep on your hair? I mean will it damage it, or is it just generally avoided because it becomes a nuisance? :)
The biggest problem in sleeping with loose long hair is tangles, at least for me. If I sleep with it loose, I often end up spending 5-10 minutes in the morning working out the tangles, whereas when I sleep with it in a segmented tail as I described, a quick run-thru with my fingers and a brush is all it takes to be ready to go for the day.
