Is it just me, or does it seem like a lot of recent newcomers just come to post their pics, receive a lot of helpful comments and/or compliments from many of us, and then just go away and disappear as quickly as they arrive?
It's also nice to hear a "thank you" once in awhile -- not that it has to be individual thank you replies (I realize that takes a lot of time); but at least a thank you to the whole group would be nice.
In fact, just for fun, I may not bother saying thank you to anyone who replies to this thread... (but, on second thought, then again that would be kind of rude, wouldn't it?)
Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

Hi Ken,
Thank you for saying that and we love you for it :-) Politeness never cost anything :-)!
Cheers,

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!
I am so far from kidding. I have been needing this board or something very much like it for years. My hair is now, at 57, longer than it has ever been, even when I was a hippie teenager rebelling. And I have so many times, especially right now, been tempted to cut it in order to fit the mainstream more (I'm recently divorced so fitting women's often strange image of the perfect man has increased importance), to get the annoying stuff out of my mouth and nose, and to stop looking askance at myself in the mirror. THANK YOU for this site and the will to keep going!
My first exposure was today - Bill Choisser's fantastic essay, On Being a Longhair, http://www.choisser.com/longhair, and it was nothing less than formative for me. So many times I have grown my hair out to probably around six inches and then given up because it looked awful and I did not know how to take care of it. That's about to change thanks to you. That said, I may just disappear eventually when the site no longer serves a concrete purpose for me, but not without profound gratitude.
Enough gushing for now - I'm anxious to finish Bill's essay and move on to posts that teach me proper care of my hair and support my weird penchant for growing it.
Thanks again and again!!
Snake Doggie
Hi Snakedog,
Thanks for the thanks (LOL)!!
We're always so glad to hear whenever we've helped someone either grow and/or keep their hair long!!!
You look GREAT for 57 (I'm 56, so I can relate! - LOL) -- and just like you, my hair is longer than I've ever had it in my lifetime... and I have no intention of seeing it become shorter anytime soon, either!
Don't worry about having a weird penchant for growing your hair out, as you've come to the right place to meet a lot of fellow-weirdos who can totally empathize... Also I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying Bill's article, "On Being A Longhhair" -- it's AWESOME!! I'm also very lucky to know him personally, as he lives only a 10 minute drive away from where I do!
Take care, -- and thanks again for the words of appreciation for MLHH!
- Ken
I was honestly going to say the same thing.
I'll try to post on here sometimes ^_^
Not leavin you all!
Ken,
For some reason, this comment REALLY rubbed me the wrong way. I am not a newcomer to long hair at all, yet I am a newcomer to the board. Umm...exactly what am I supposed to be thanking you for exactly? After your post, I think I'm going to just move along and not bother posting anymore. Your comment didnt make me feel too welcome.
"...For some reason, this comment REALLY rubbed me the wrong way...comment didn't make me feel too welcome..."
Dear "Element":
There are a handful of regulars on this board that make a sincere effort to post a customized welcome to newcomers.....this takes a certain dedication and cpnsiderable time. The majority of these posts are never acknowledged and we rarely hear back from these folks.....very frustrating !
Perhaps "acknowledgment" would be a better word than "Thank You"
Please do not leave, you are most certainly a welcome newcomer to the MLHH...
I look forward to seeing your posts in the future.
WWT (Walter White Tail)
All is well and I apologize for taking the comment the wrong way. I'm a very shy person and honestly a bit overly sensitive and its a HUGE deal for me to even socialize on a message baord such as this. I honestly dont get out or talk to folks too much. In person or online. As such, my relations and ineractions with others may be a bit "off" at times. LOL I do think I totally took the message out of context and jumped to conclusion and do sincerely apologize for that. :)
Hi Element,
My sincere apologies -- although I think Walter White Tail explained the situation I was referring to.
Maybe I shouldn't have entitled it "Re. Newcomers", although in truth it has been such that I was complaining about recently (although NOT you, because I noticed how wonderful you were at acknowledging the folks who replied to your post)...
Please, there is no reason for you to leave. I honestly do apologize if I came across offensively. I've been with this group a long time -- and after awhile there's a pattern that becomes more obvious to those of us who hang around here a lot.
I hope that explains things a little bit better, or at least attempts to...
Thanks,
Ken
Frustrating isn't it?
Kevin
Well put Ken as it's annoying when someone makes the big intro, posts pics, then after getting a bucket load of positive comments......NOTHING!Sometimes they show up again weeks/months later or never.Kind of wonder why they even bothered in the first place. So I certainly share your frustrations Ken.Sometimes if these people reappear with more pics looking for more comments I wouldn't even bother replying. Thanks for bringing this up.
Mark
that we are a community and its nice to have a little give and take. It's fun to get to know one another and part of that means writing something back after you post a thread. To just post something and never comment back when countless guys contributed to that thread is not very friendly:(
Mark
As a newcomer with little experience it is hard to know what to say without feeling a little...presumptuous.
Nevertheless, I will consider your post a clarion call, inviting us to chime in.
I understand, no problem.
Yes, please do whenever you see a good window of opportunity, as we always appreciate a fresh perspective!
Thanks,
Ken
I hope I thanked you all when I first showed up here by the end of march, but just in case I forgot: Thanks!
I have somewhat settled down in Japan now, so hopefully I'll be able to participate a little from now on.
//Sebasthian
Hey Sebastian,
I appreciate the comment -- and yes, as I remember, you did thank us before... Hope your life in Japan settles down to being a great one!!
My best to you!
- Ken
Hi Ken,
I am SO glad that you made this post, and I agree with you 100% of the way, in fact 110% or more! The words "Thank you", are 2 of the best words in the English language, and there is nothing to compare with good manners either!
Thank you, Ken!
