I'm an aspiring longhair.
My hair is in that awkward stage where it's too short to be in a single braid or ponytail, but too long to be comfortable. It's between 6 and 7 inches long and I don't want to cut it. Is there anything I can do apart from just waiting until it is long enough to tie back?
Good. Then by all means, DON'T cut it!
Absolutely! You can do any of the following:
1) use gel, mousse, and/or hair spray (if you like any of that crap -- or, like I was during my own awkward stages, are desperate enough - LOL));
2) wear a beanie hat, cap, or bandana (see Bill Choisser's site by looking in the Archives section for more info on bandanas);
3) tie your bangs back into a half-tail on top of your head;
4) any or all of the above, combined.
There are other options that I've only read about, but have never tried myself (like things called, "Alice bands"); but the true badge of honor is that once you arrive at the end of the awkward stages, just knowing you've survived by "toughing it out" will give you a HUGE dung-eating grin you can truly be proud of...

Thank you for your reply.
I live in a very hot place, it gets up to 45ºCelsius / 113ºFahrenheit here so hats, caps and gel are out. When I've used gel before it ended up making itself into a sweaty paste and dripped down my face and neck.
I tried the half-tail and I think it has potential for next month, it's not quite long enough for a good one now.
Thanks again.
