I posted a thread recently stating that I was fortunate to have a supervisor that has no issues with me growing my hair long. I was thinking today about my work environment and realized that I have more to be thankful for in the hair growth realm.
I work in a VA outpatient clinic and several of my fellow veterans that I care for daily have long hair. I usually ask how long it took to grow to that point, and other questions that come up and they're always more than happy to talk about it and give me encouragement in my own journey.
One moment from last week really stood out...one of the guys had his hair pulled back and held by a leather band with a stick through it. The stick was very ornately carved and the leather piece skillfully embellished as well. When I asked where he got it he said that he made it and started telling me about his woodworking hobby. It was very cool to not only see something that looked perfectly in place on a man's long hair, but to learn that he had created it.
I'm really glad that I work where I do.
leather and wood barrettes are a real plain and simple hair accessory, I love them and now you got me thinking of doing my own.
I don't have any leatherworking tools to make or decorate my strap, however I'm more than practiced at wood carving so I've just got tons of ideas going through my head now of stick designs.
Glad to see you are getting encouragement at work too! I work in a call center, and strangely I've been getting a lot of positive comments on growing it out. I'm even getting a few of the girls jealous because they don't understand why their frizzed out hair is all destroyed and mines prettier. I'm really thinking society although still drastically opposed to men with long hair is really starting to open up to it.
What a delightfully upbeat and positive post !!
Thank You so much for sharing your story and outlook !

I'm usually a pretty positive person...sometimes over caffeinated, but still positive. :)
