Well, it's soccer season again, and my now-9-year-old boy is still a proud and die-hard longhair! Over the past year, he has received a few more taunts and rude comments from other kids about the length of his hair than he had previously, but he has weathered them like a real champion. It's a good thing that he's so easy-going, and doesn't let what other people think overrule what he values. He is an active participant in swimming, soccer, and karate. Also an avid reader, he is just finishing up the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and plans on being Legolas for Halloween this year.
Congratulations to everyone who's been posting updates... I haven't been too vocal on here over the past year (VERY busy with family and school, and just a few weeks away now from being a registered nurse), though I have remained a chronic lurker :)
Take care!
Any male kid who can pull off having long hair before puberty has resolve. Problem is before then you are pretty much always going to get mistaken for a girl at first glance. Your kid will grow up happy because he doesn't let other people control his appearance/actions, etc. Pre-Congratulations on your becoming a registered nurse.
Hi Val,
Hey, those are some great shots of your son and I will say he looks outstanding compared to those other cookie cutter kids!HA!Good for him weathering the storm of bone headed comments from others who just don't get it.It has to be tough at his age to endure such thoughtless comments but you've trained him well:)Good luck to you on becoming a registered nurse as I'm sure you'll do well my friend. Thanks for your updates no matter how infrequent.Cheers to you all!!
Mark
Hey!
Really nice head of hair! It's quite surprising that your son's hair is so blond considering the color of your hair =)
What about update from you? Are you still on the run ?
Bye
Vivien
It's nice to see a long haired kid but it's better to see it supported by his family :)
Plus, he seems to have good classics :p
Your son is one cool kid!
...and well you should be.....good looking young man and obviously smart like his Dad....reading Tolkien at 9 years old is impressive.
Good to hear from you, and Congrats on the "almost" Nursing degree.
Drop in when you can.
Walter
reading Tolkien at 9 years old is impressive.
I only read translations of Tolkien so there's something i have been wondering for a long time. Is Tolkien's style so boring or the french translator deserve a good stoning?
The translator deserves a good stoning. I read those books way back when I was in the Navy, and had a lot of time to read while at sea. I thoroughly enjoyed them. This was way before all the hype that came with the movies made from them.
Good for him, and I am inclined to think in this particular case your son has the upper hand. Why? Having long hair at this very young age (and even earlier) is before the other classmates become stuck-in-the-mud "Society Clones." They, (the classmates) are still a bit innocent and accepting............and, they have known your son from the start.
Your son wins!
Oh shucks, he beat me to the LotR trilogy with a year or two...
Anyway, his hair looks great and, as Jarvis said, that's one cool kid.

Just lovely Validus - What a fine young individual your son is becoming!

Very cool Val, Congrats for being a cool dad and for achieving your goal as a registered nurse. (Almost there!)
Bruce
Your kind comments are greatly appreciated, and I'll be sharing them with my son later today.
