Can anyone let me know of good natural treatments, as in using stuff from your kitchen, to smooth hair and make it as soft and shiny as possible. (nothing that will end up harming the hair in the long run, which ruins the purpose of using natural stuff)
Mayonnaise works very well. Don't get the low fat stuff. Get the regular mayo. Put it in your hair and leave it in for an hour or so. Rinse it out, wash your hair, then condition it with a regular conditioner for 30 minutes, then rinse that out.
Another thing that works well is vegetable oil. Do the same thing with it.
I've used both, and prefer mayo. It works wonders. I condition my hair with mayo about three or four times a year. It's all you need.
Hope that helps!
I've been using coconut oil for the last 9 months and it's worked well. I buy parachute coconut oil (non-processed) from my local Indian market. When it's colder it turns into a solid-when it's warmer it's an oil. If it's solidified, just soak the container (small ones work well) in hot water. Then pour some into a small wide cup and apply it to the hair scalp. I wash it out within a half hour, so I totally saturate my head with it and massage it into my scalp also (I only do this once a week). U can also just use a little on a "bad hair day" to give your hair added weight-u don't have to wash it out right away then.

I like olive oil, or even cheaper, vegetable oil. Smooth it through hair, being careful not to use very much, then shampoo out. I do this at night, because you can't always tell if you've used too much and need to shampoo again until the hair is dry.
I've started to experiment with baby oil and may just switch to that since it smells so much better.
I've read honey is a good leave in conditioner, but haven't tried it yet. But basically, stir a couple teaspoons of honey into a quart or so warm water. Pour over hair, don't rinse.
