I've had problems with dandruff on and off for about 2-3 years now. And i've been using this natural shampoo against dandruff and such for a month (been using it before, too). It contains tea tree oil and other good herbs and stuff. That shampoo is a ***** to use, since you pretty much can't get ANY lather from it. The dandruff may be a bit less, but there are still parts of my scalp where the dandruff just won't leave me alone!
Any of you guys with similar problems? Dandruff sucks!
The Pic was taken in August 2009, and has nothing to do with the dandruff.
Well as it really is a skin issue I say think about seeing a dermatologist. The tee tree oil and herbs may not do much for your scalp although your hair will be great you'll still have flakes.
Dandruff can be dealt with but your best bet is see a doctor and be done with it. I know some who have and are thrilled.
Kevin
I don't think i'll have to do that, as i don't have MUCH dandruff. It's just that the little i have refuses to go away.
Maybe just changing shampoo will help?

Yeah, I have dandruff to the extreme. See the image of my keyboard which will eventually fail from being clogged with flakes. I have tried mixing tea tree oil in my shampoo, but it has not helped. I don't have a clue as to how to get rid of it. I am going to sit back and wait to see what others here have to say about dandruff and how to get rid of it. It is time for me as well to try a different approach to controlling it.

Scott;
That is one of the most horrifying hair related photos we have ever seen on this forum ! Ick ! Ha!
Yuck the keyboard should be condemed!
You should buy one of those little vacuum cleaners to clean your
keyboard.

Hi Kevin, who sells these? I have never seen these before. It may save my keyboard from a slow death. Does it have a blower attachment for blowing dust from camera lenses as well?
Scott
Here's a link to their site. They run off compressed air so you'd need an air compressor.I used to make a simple version of that in the 70's when I was in the Air Force. They've been around a long time.I'd forgotten about them, they would be great for cleaning out the insides of electronics.

Just as plants soak up needed nutrients from fallen leaves, your scalp needs the nutrients fallen on your keyboard, so Scott, lick 'em up!

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, extra protein. Yum.

Well, I'm just about to heave now.... Dandruff is NOT my favorite spice to cook with!!!
Hi Scott/Abstrakt,
An apple cider vinegar rinse works well for me - About 1 part vinegar to 4 or 5 parts water.
Dandruff is virtually nonexistent in my hair and beard. I wash my hair about 2 to 3 times per week.
If you try ACV, give it a few months.
If you or a friend have a shop air compressor handy, use the air nozzle and blast out your keyboard periodically.
Try a rubber keyboard cover - Google it, they're everywhere for all models of keyboards.
You can take these off and wash them with soap and water, and your keyboard stays clean.

I am avoiding vinegar rinses. Referring to my hair spreadsheet I see that I had the worst shed on record when I did a vinegar rinse on 11/29/2009. I shed so much it was scary. Never again. I am must be allergic to vinegar.
I will give the rubber keyboard cover a try. I have seen these but have never tried them. Thanks.
Scott
I'm with Oren on this one. I battled itchy scalp and dandruff my whole life, trying every shampoo on the market that was designed to combat it. The results were minimal at best. I started using ACV rinses of one part vinegar, 3 parts water about 4-5 months ago and am still amazed at how much better my head feels. I rarely ever get an itch, and dandruff is non-existent.
abstrakt, I'm a doctor who posts only occasionally on this site. When the all-natural approach doesn't work, the next best step is to buy a bottle of over-the-counter ketoconazole shampoo (one brand name is Nizoral). lather it up and let it set on your scalp for 5-10 minutes before rinsing out. If you have scaly skinOnce your dandruff is under control, you only need to use the Nizoral once or twice a week to maintain that control. It is more expensive than most shampoos, but it really works. Ketoconazole is an antifungal agent, and dandruff responds to it because it often has a fungal component to it (think athlete's foot of the scalp). It has an added benfit: ketoconazole is a mild anti-testosterone agent, which may help ward off familial hair loss.
I omitted part of a sentence in my post. Here is the entire sentence:
If you have scaly or flaky skin in your ears, rub some of the lather there as well and let sit for 5-10 minutes before rinsing out.
Ketoconazole is also highly allergenic and is as likely to cause dandruff symptoms as to cure them.
Although there have been some reports of allergic reactions after use of ketoconazole shampoo (source: Micromedex), that certainly does not make ketoconazole "highly allergenic" for the general population. With any medicine, man-made or natural, certain individuals are prone to an adverse reaction. The overwhelming majority of people are not. For any product ingested or applied to the human body, there will be someone who will have a reaction to it. Topical ketoconazole is absolutely safe for most people and really works to clear dandruff. As far as I can tell, the assertion that it is "as likely to cause dandruff symptoms as to cure them" is not based on published medical evidence.
Well. To be honest I had a similar issue.
Two things I did was the Vinager treatment. But I did it a little differently. I did do a Apple Cider vinager rinse, but I also took Vinager, and mixed it in a spray bottle with water and Hydrating conditioner (Not much) and sprayed and left it on. It stings a little.
Second I shampooed once a week with Neutragina T-gel which lathers. Leave it on the roots for 3 minutes. It contains tar and Coal and is similar to Doak oil which they use for other dry skin conditions.
It works wonders because it kills fungus as well as prevents dandruf. It smells horrid though
When I was younger, I used to have dandruff problems myself; but I always found that after a real good lathering up with good old-fashioned Head & Shoulders shampoo, the problem always disappeared shortly thereafter.
My favorite shampoo nowadays is NOT at all "Head & Shoulders", though; I much prefer an all-natural, organic shampoo called, "EO" (which stands for "Essential Oil"). I also like Avalon Organics. Both brands are available at Whole Foods markets, as well as often at Trader Joe's, and even nowadays in Safeway supermarkets (it used to only be available in health food type stores). I haven't had a dandruff problem in many years (and I really do mean, many many many MANY years...)....
The last time I remember having dandruff, in fact, was way back in the day of when I used to chase the local dinosaurs after getting out of caveman school; but hey, no use in boring you about what it was like before that that frickin' Ice Age came along!
Take care -- and let us know what ends up working best for you.

I think youve got some excellent shampooing advice that you'll have to sort out.
All I would add is that a good, balanced, healthy diet may also be beneficial.
You are what you eat"
Drink more water, less soda, eat more fruits and veggies, less chips and processed foods.
I used to be more prone to dandruff but in the last few years, I can't remember having dandruff. I wasn't aiming for that goal, but just decided to eat a healthy diet.. nothing too crazy.
Good luck!
Bruce
I do eat a healthy diet. Alot more fruit&vegetables than most people my age, whole grain, water etc...
Excellent! In addition, I've adding Flaxseed oil or Salmon oil (omega3 fatty acid), Evening Primrose oil (omega6 fatty acid), and Vitamin E. Also Biotin and MSM. I'm not sure if this all helps, but I was adding it to my dogs diet for skin and coat improvements so I figured it can't hurt.
Bruce
It could be a vitamin deficiency. Try Biotin supplements. Biotin promotes healthy skin and hair.
