Hey
just wanted to post a 34 month update. It wasn't growth the whole time - in total at least 4 inches were cut from the length to fix the shape somewhat.
Looks very short for nearly 3 years because the curls are getting tighter especially at the back. In these pics it looks awful though lol because I had just washed it and it was windy outside. I'm getting a lot of frizz lately on the top layers because I mainly wear my hair pulled back... is there any way I can reduce this frizz please?
Enjoy!
Thanks
Shawn
Hoho ! Amazing, Shawn ! I'm fond of your volume.
As for the frizziness, I'm afraid I don't have so much tips. Try to comb with a wide toothed comb, maybe ?
Vivien
Hi Shawn,
Thanks for the update. All I can say is wow! The hair is looking amazing and such thickness and body, your very lucky to have natural curly hair like that.
As for the frizz you could try a wide tooth comb. I also have after wash frizz as well. I sometimes braid it when wet and they helps as it dries.
Keep it growing and look forward to your future updates.
Cheers,

Wow Shawn
That is totally dynamite gorgeous long hair. Great job. Applause!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome hair keep up the great work!
Woah, man your hair has so much volume to it, when its terminal its going to be HUGE.
Hey Shawn
You basically have two textures in your hair. Like myself, the top layers around the crown are courser and just wavy, whereas around the sides and back are pretty tightly curly.
For curly hair, frizz occurs when the hairs starts separating from each other, making you hair bigger and bigger. My hair would be like that if I let it :)
This is a video of the back of my hair. My hair is damp/ wet, and you can see the demarcation of where it was pulled back (I let it out of the bun I keep right from the shower, just conditioner in it) and let dry...because it is almost straight, where in essence my hair is not straight:
To tame your hair, you need to 'set ' it while it is very wet, so that the curls are formed. You can use gel, or just conditioner in the shower :)...then you let it dry without touching it AT ALL....It will be flat and kind of stringy. Once your hair is DRY and UNTOUCHED, then you can do several things...try a little oil in your hands (coconut oil, for example)...then run it gently through your hair, being careful not o over maniplate the curls....You can also shake your hair at the roots to give it body, because it will be flat after drying :)
Take a look at this site, she has a good technique:

Hope this helps!

>> Hi, i also have curly hair and my hair looks better when i wash it only with water and when i wait it to be dry without doing anything to it. What about yours?
When I wash it with water, nothing changes. But I noticed the frizz goes the more conditioner I add to my hair (over the course of the week before I have to wash it again). I don't usually touch my hair but on most days it dries while being pulled back - could this be the reason?
Yes, i think it is.
Hi Shawn, that's one fantastic mane you've got there as I can't get over the density. Some guys are just blessed with such beautiful hair:)Your my hero buddy!Cheers

hey Shawn what a great update! your hair has come a long way and is looking awesome my friend! congrads on 34 months and keep it growing buddy! :)
You have some really nice curls in your hair, especially near the end. I like how your hair spirals as you go down each strand. Just pull one straight, and let it go, and it springs back into a curl. However, frizzles can be a pain, and it takes a while to grow out hair with a lot of curls. A hair gel can temporarily settle your frizz.

Your hair looks gorgeous, Shawn. It is so thick and full. With added length it will settle down. Looking good.

Hi Shawn,
What a fantastic update, and what an awesome, THICK head of curls you are blessed with! Be sure to keep it growing, and with added length, the weight of your hair will stretch out your curls, and they will settle down further down your back.
Keep it growing,
David
Hi Shawn,
I agree with the others who have replied, praising your thick curly mane which looks AWESOME!!
As far as solving the "frizzies" problem...
Try applying a small amount of beneficial oil onto your hair ends and lower half of your mane. Just a very small amount (about the size of a small coin) will do the trick.
By "beneficial oil", I mean any of the natural, pure oils that are known to be hair-friendly, like: Olive oil, Almond oil, Jojoba oil, or Kukui nut oil (there might be others; but these are the four that I'm most aware of). Besides helping to eliminate the frizzies, I've also found beneficial oil to help cut down on split ends as well.
I usually only apply any of the above oils onto my hair ends immediately AFTER i have just shampooed and conditioned it, when the hair is still damp -- although applying it onto the lower half of my mane when my hair is totally dry also works (but sometimes results in me applying too much of it, thus turning my hair a bit too greasy-looking).
This subject comes up from time to time. For more info about this topic, please check out our Archives section.
Give one of the beneficial oils a try, and then let us know how it works for you.... Happy Hair-farming!

Congrats Shawn, 34 months! I thinks your hair looks awesome.
I don't have the same hair type as you, but the frizzies still do attack! I find them especially annoying up to two days after a wash. I've been doing the once a week thing for a few months now and lately doing water only occasionly or conditioner only. It actually seems to help a bit and it doesnt seem to have any negative effects, i.e. greasy hair.
Keep it growin'

Nice!
Hey, the frizz thing is really regional. I live in Denver which is VERY dry and my flat hair just dries up and frizzes out. I use oil like UrbanCowboy suggested (except olive oil?? the smell!) - I use some FrizzEase serum and some other product I got a Walmart just for calming frizzy hair. It works well and also gives my hair some sheen. I think Urban is right, tho - there's nothing special about this stuff, it's just oil, probably any oil would work (but some smell better than others!).
I have to say, tho, that after using this stuff my hair feels "dirty" whatever that means. A comb really drags through it. I think I'm still learning Bill's most basic advice whichs is "STOP CUTTING AND WASHING YOUR HAIR!" I'm still used to having hair that's washed every day or two and when it finally gets a little oil that makes it look good it feels dirty because I'm not used to that. Haven't got it all figured out yet...
You look like you just have curly hair which doesn't sit down as much as flat hair and that's a good thing. Flat hair can just stick to your head and look boring. Count your blessings!

You've got really cool hair. I like its sheer mass! It's nice how your curls are lengthening with the added weight.
Wow your hair is huge, it's very unique. To bad that you've got some frizz problems. I only comb my hair after showering and never brush it, that works well for me to form curls but you're probably already doing that.
Hey Shy... I like. In retrospect from a comment you made on another users posts, I'll gladly trade my straight hair with you.
Your hair looks amazing!
As a straight-hair, I'm jeaous of the volume and body. My hair tends to just hang limp, but from what I've heard from other curly-hairs, they're jealous of that too. I suppose we all want what we don't have.
Anyway, there are a lot of products which help to tame the frizzies. You could also try applying a light oil, suh as jojoba or sweet almond while your hair's still wet. That would give you more defined curls rather than your current mane and also, as a side benefit, act as a conditioner.
Hey Shawn!
Those are some amazing curls. I'm really jealous now. My hair's practically stick-straight. Keep that mane growing and flowing!
