does anyone know the proper way to get dred locks?
Shave them off, I don't think theres a way to get rid of them and keep the length. Maybe dipping your head in conditioner for ever?
Argh *slaps himself* misread the topic. I think someone told me you have to twist them and tie a knot in the end and then don't use conditioner on your hair, because it untangles the hair.
the cyber-police will be there shortly to administer a field sobriety test.
I've read/been told, to braid your hair and back-brush. there're many sites on that topic. looking under dredhead maybe
You backcomb you hair to frizz it, then you use beezwax, or better yet, a wax specifically made for dreading. You section your hair into one inch squares (adjust size accordingly) then you apply the wax and twist each dread as far as you can muster. After that, roll the length of the dread with your palms. The thing about dreads is to remember to "twist and roll." Try to twist all your dreads in the same direction. After twisting, put a rubberband on the end of the dread. Make sure you put it up as far as you need to hold all the hairs. Don't wash your hair for 2 WEEKS. Remember to twist and roll everyday, and add wax occasionally. After 3 months, you should have dreads. Before that, sorry, but it will look like crap. :) :::End of message:::
www.dreadheadhq.com has great instructions for dreading/maintenance. They also sell the dread wax, and the stiffer comb needed to backcomb the hair. They claim their wax will help the dreads look spiffy til they actually dread, who knows?
hope this helps!
