Hi guys,
Probably no one remembers me, as I last posted here almost two years ago, when my hair was somewhere like 2 inches long. But I was still lurking here, and I think it's finally time to post an update :)
I still haven't found a good hair care routine for me. I've tried almost every imaginable thing: most shampoos and conditioners I could find, washing without shampoo and only with water, using olive oil instead of or after the conditioner, combing or brushing before and after shower - still I get almost the same results. The hair becomes frizzy on the second day or so, and if I wash it too often - it becomes frizzy right as it dries.
The best thing I've found so far is to wash my hair in the evening, only comb it while in shower and with a lot of conditioner in, then tie it in a short braid and go to sleep. Then the next day or two it looks ok. Walking out with my hair not completely dried is a sure way to turn it into a frizzy cloud by the evening.
Does anyone know what works better for such type of hair?
And thanks to you a lot, you're all a great inspiration to me!
Vladimir.
Fantastic looking long hair! Bravo!!!!
You might try a little gel. (A few drops.)
Have both hand wet and rub the gel within the palms, then just smooth over the hair. This most likely will help alot.
Thanks Justin, I'll definitely try this.
Vladimir.
Thanks for sharing this great photo of you :)
Keep growin'
Vivien
Thanks!
Whilst I appreciate that you may not be happy with your hair, looks good. The slight frizziness is nothing to be too concerned about.
Thanks!
It seems that very few people are really happy with their hair, and everyone else's seems better to them.
Vladimir.
And a fine looking head of hair it is.
Thanks!
First of , Well done Vladimir!
Second, I don't have the same hair type, but....if I wash too often, if I shampoo too vigorously or if I use a too drying shampoo, I have the frizzies for 2 days! I wash maybe once a week, sometimes water only, sometimes conditioner only, and maybe shampoo (just for the scalp. This seams to work for me.
Oh yah, a little styling gel helps.
Bruce
Thanks, never tried the gel.
But for me washing only with water is a definite way to make my hair extremely frizzy. I have to use a lot of conditioner and to comb the hair thoroughly with the conditioner to avoid that.
Vladimir.
One possible cause of extreme frizziness with water only could be excessive chlorine in your water supply. Dr.Oz explains in this YouTube video:
Bruce
Well, this actually may be the case. I now live and study in a different city than where my parents are, and the water seems to be very different: I almost always get very frizzy hair after taking a shower at home, while at my rented flat the water seems to be better, although still far from ideal. So I suspected that there could be something wrong with the water, but didn't know what it was.
Never thought that there are special filters for shower. I'm going to look for these.
Thanks a lot!
Vladimir.
Wow great hair!
I have to say your face looks a lot like a friend of mines from when he was a lot younger, I had to do a double take!
Matt
Thanks!
It's very unlikely that there's any relation, as judging from the time you post your messages, we live somewhere like at the opposite sides of the Earth :)
Vladimir.
Hi Vladimir,
Of course we remember you, and thank you for stopping in to share your outstanding update with us. Your hair is so thick, has grown so much since your last update, and has great natural curls too.
I won't offer you any more advice than the other posters have already offered with regard to your questions, and the main thing is to keep it growing!
Keep it growing,
David
Thanks!
I still wonder where you find the time it takes to answer to almost everyone, constantly for so many years :)
Vladimir.
I think your hair's very nice. I don't know of any help beside what you're doing already for it. My hair gets a little frizzy most times too, and I just run my hands under some water and run them over my hair, sometimes taking my ponytail out to do so. That's what I'd do at work sometimes - I do construction, and once was on the roof with no hat or shirt in summer. My co worker up there said my hair looked really good after I wet the outside down after lunch to keep it out of my face before putting it back in a ponytail. He said it looked two toned. Like two colors. So some days you might want to and be able to run water over & through it several times a day? Or wouldn't that work, as you said it frizzes as it dries?
I remember reading how the ancient Egyptians used lots of fragrant oils, giving a wet look, or a gelled or moussed look.
Kind regards,
John.
Thanks John, I'll try this too. So you wet the hair only from the outside, not all of it, and then put it into a ponytail, right?
Thanks,
Vladimir.
Yes, mostly on the outside, but kind of running my fingers through it a little too, sometimes just mostly the outside, to smooth it. Not totally wet, just like, 1/3 wet. Whatever seems to work and is easiest at the time. But I have to take out the ponytail to run my hands all down it and through it a little to keep it from just flying back out again as soon as it's dry. It's almost like combing it but not as involved. Very simple and quick most times. I'd cup my hands under a faucet and pour it quickly over the outside first, then kind of pull it smooth, then put it back up. If I'd turn my head upside down for some of it, it would put more fullness in instead of it getting too flat on top of my head, but that's for my hair. You might not need to worry about fullness. You're welcome, Vladimir.
Hi Vladimir,
Wow, I just love the way your hair looks on you as you were meant to have longhair my friend.Finding a routine for ones hair can really be a science.Lots of trial and error but it sounds like you may finally have found something that works for you.I'm glad to see you decided to post again and hope to see more of you here.As you can see there is a great group of guys here and we longhairs look out for one another.Cheers
Mark
Hi Mark,
Thanks a lot.
I'd definitely post more often if only I had something interesting to post, or maybe a bit of advice to someone.
Like you already said, I haven't seen any places on the Internet with an atmosphere like this.
Vladimir.
