I'm wondering if I should go to a stylist to shape my head. I'm in the awkward stage and should i just let it grow over the summer then shape it?
I remember the one time I went to a stylist when I was nineteen and in the awkward stage, and he said he understood my desire to have it get long, and how I liked it thick, but ended up 'thinning' it to two inches on top and putting in lots of layers, setting me back many months in my growth. They seem to like to just cut hair. I'm kind of afraid of them. You have to be very firm and clear with them, otherwise it could end up being very disappointing.
I wouldn't bother, you would pretty much have to take a course of hairstylist jargon to be able to effectively communicate your desires with mediocre stylists who do not take the initiative to ask you pertinent questions after you give them a general feel for what you want.
It's probably pretty pointless as per what the others said about "stylists" not listening, just put up with the awkward stage if you can. If you must go make it crystal clear that you want to grow it all one length and you don't want it thinned or layered...
Then when it finally gets to be all one length just let it grow.
However that will take a long time-and you'll end up with much less length than you would have in the same amount of time - although a lot of people prefer that look of one length.
Good luck!
You should just let your hair grow out naturally- until at least shoulder length. You will just prolong the awkward stage otherwise. Whatever style you get will be grown out of rapidly, remember, and then you will be back to square zero.
