The band that is!
Lately I've been exploring their catalog and I'm finding with repeated listens, I'm really liking a lot of the songs. I know they're a pretty old band but are any of you guys fans?
Chuck Schuldiner was so talented and a longhair too until his untimely death.
Stand out songs for me:
Crystal Mountain
Empty Words - love the intro!
Sacred Serenity
Symbolic
Voice of the Soul
Trapped In a Corner
Spiritual Healing
Perennial Quest
Voice of the Soul is an AMAZING song, first I ever heard by them. Very atmospheric and gives me goosebumps as it builds. That whole record is fantastic, especially Spirit Crusher. Great band.

That song was also my introduction to them. I was very impressed.
I'm also a fan of the band, not any song in particular I like most of their songs.
Haven't listened to them for a while thanks for the tip.
I found that some of the songs took repeated listens to get into but I definitely like most of them as well.
Hey Jason! I'm actually a huge Death fan. Everything on Death's last 3 albums, especially ITP and Symbolic, is a masterpiece in my opinion. It just sucks that Chuck died. I've been a Death fan for... a while. I think since 5th grade. My uncle's really into metal and got me turned onto them.
Symbolic is my favorite album. The depth of the music is amazing.
I'm a huge Death fan, got every single studio album. Chuck was a genius musician - a truly unique guitarist and songwriter. Sucks that he died so young.
My album "rankings" are:
1. Individual Thought Patterns
2. The Sound Of Perseverance
3. Symbolic
4. Human
5. Spiritual Healing
6. Scream Bloody Gore
7. Leprosy
But I love all of them!
Have you listened to the Death successor band Control Denied? They released one album in 1999 and worked on another one, but then Chuck died.
But now it seems that the unfinished material will be released soon: www.emptywords.org
There are already 4 demo songs on youtube.
Stay tuned for news.
I heard that Chuck went on to form that band but I haven't listened to them yet. That would be great if all the material is released.
My favorite death metal band. The Sound of Perseverance and Human are my favorite albums.
They're my favorite death metal band as well. I like the thought provoking lyrics and variation in the music that is sometimes not present in other death metal bands.
Yeah Death is a one of a kind band, how often do you get a band that is so good musically and lyrically (the message)?
I haven't listened to all of the songs yet, I tend to listen to a few new songs from a band every now and then, I don't like to listen to whole albums worth of material from a band at a time unless I have been stoked waiting for the record to come out, so the process takes awhile.
I enjoy just about every song, but some highlights are: The entire voice of the soul album, and about 1/3 to half of all the other albums except scream bloody gore and leprosy, which I haven't listened to much.
I agree that the lyrics, especially of the later albums, are deep and though-provoking unlike some death metal bands.
I'm also a huge fan of the band. It looks like you seem to prefer their later more progressive work. You might want to check out Control Denied, Chuck's other band, that only got to record one album before his untimely death. They're a progressive metal band with "classic" heavy metal style vocals.
