Hey guys
My hair is reaching mid back and I am trying to find ways to still stay very professional without resorting to cutting. I know many of you favor long ponytails, single braids or buns, but I don't feel comfortable with any of those. Lately I have tried doubling up my tail and then adding an additional band in the center. It ends up creating a shorter ponytail, which I am ok with. But I am not even sure I am doing it right.
Any other advice out there for binding long hair up besides the ways listed above?
I will try and post an update of my length and the method I tried to describe.
Thanks in advance!
Best,
Robert
Robert, I think your hair looks very professional loose like in your first picture. Let everyone get used to your hair loose. Just wear it any way that you are most comfortable with. Tommie
Tommie,
What a beautiful and sage response. Loose was certainly fine in the 17th century. That's not where we're at now of course, but, there is something classic about wearing it loose.
I agree John, sure wish I could leave my hair loose more often. However at work its just not practical for me being I'm outdoors in the elements often and I do want to protect my mane from that.At least when I'm home it's have fun time with loose hair all over the place:)Your hair looks gorgeous by the way and I can see why you'd want to leave it loose.Cheers

The only problem with doing that is that you end up with loose hair all over the place - usually between your toes! lol (That's why I usually try to brush it first. At least that way, I can catch most of the shed hairs before my other half goes ballistic.)
Still, if you can't let your hair down from time to time, is it worth growing it long at all?
Actually if my hair has been restrained for awhile after I get home brushing it out right away is something I will do.Otherwise it looks messed up and and lifeless. And like you mentioned the shed hair get picked up then.
I agree that after all one goes through growing out their hair you want to be able to really enjoy it by letting it hang loose as much as possible:)

Thank you very much! ;p I don't wear it loose except when I first get out of bed, or the very occasional day. I work in residential remodel and wear it in a bun under a little ski cap most of the day so it doesn't distract me. It stays in much better condition that way too. I'm going to try some gel in the summer instead of the hat.
Robert;
I see a clean shaven face, a crisp conservative shirt and a pair of confidant eyes behind business-like glasses.....all present a very professional appearance. Leave your hair in the style with which you are comfortable.

Hi Robert,
I agree with Walter as your attire is very professional. That said all you need to consider is how to wear your hair.I'd say as long as it isn't flying into your face at work then it should be fine in any style that YOU prefer. If you like the doubled pony then do that and your set.If you find the hairs breaking free during the day that tells me you need to grow your hair longer.Let's say in this example to your waist. With that kind of length your hair will stay put all day unless your doing aerobics or something. Before I forget your hair looks outstanding:)I really like your behind the head pic with your hair loose.FANTASTIC!Cheers and good luck with you hair styling:)

You have incredible hair! I'd already say your hair look professional, just as long as you keep it slicked back like that. If you want to just contain it, perhaps try clipping it back?
Oh, another suggestion. what I do when I want my hair out of my face is I pull my bangs and sides behind my ear. This doesn't make it look stupid at all, and also prevents your hair from getting in your eyes or face.
