Another poster greatly helped me out but I still had some questions left, if anyone doesn't mind helping I'd appreciate it:
1) Should I wear a beanie?---- My hair is naturally thin and curly/wavy. When it gets to 4 inches I can afro it out and it looks like I have a mini Dr. J afro (I'm white btw). I don't want it any longer than 8 inches though. I noticed when I slept last year with a stocking/beanie on my head when I woke up my hair was all straight and neat looking, atleast until I hit humidity. Is this a good idea to wear it or will it do damage to the hair long term? I apply Dr. Lee's minoxdil/propecia topical 2x a day and I think this would help absorption at night time as well maybe.
2) How often would you reccommend I shampoo and condition?-- I read off this site every other day and if dry hair then once every 3 days. The professional salon down the street the guy said everyday. Right now I do 4x a week with Aveda's Pure Abundance Shampoo and their conditioner and it is still dry. The pure abundance line is suppose to help greatly with thin hair. I also use a 2% ketoconazole shampoo 2x a week too. I am thinking about cutting both of these routines in half. Another poster suggested I use a lower priced conditioner *everyday* and an expensive one once a week. I'm just getting really confused because I hear a million different things.
3) Vitamins and product?--I read about hair vitamins, are these still considered pretty much a waste and a plain ole multi is just fine? Are there any product I can add to my hair to help grow it better and healthier? Another poster suggested Paul Mitchels "the cream" which is a leave-in moisturizer and then seal this in by rubbing a small amount of coconut oil. I can't wait to try it.
Thanks!
The Archives are rich with tips on this.
Ill sum it up.
Awkward Stage. Try the following.
The beanie is gonna flatten the hair but that does not solve the issue. (Trust me)
Key thing is moisture retention for curly waivy hair. Use conditioner each day and make sure it's a heavy moisture one. Deep condition 2 times a week. (I buy Tripple Nutrician from Garnier and it costs like 5 bucks.)
That will help you maintain moisture. Don't dry your hair out by shampooing a ton. You can use Jojoba oil, but if you can't find it, John Frida makes a 10 dollar product that lasts for eternity and works well on taming frizz. Makes the hair feel a little gungy, but meh.
Cold water rinces help fight humidity and frizz and avoid all alcohol products as they will dry out the hair. If you need some support througout the day, I use a spray gel from Garnier (5 bucks) and it just refreshes things and it's water based.
Also, avoid brushing your hair with your hair type (Similar to mine) as all you will do is damage it. Comb it with a pick comb but never brush it. Curly, Frizzy, Waivy and thick hair really hate being brushed.
Lastly...find an unscented bounce dryer sheet (Or the smelly ones if you like too woo the ladies with the scent of spring dawn or fresh linnen smells) If you need a quick antifrizz rub the damn thing on your head and watch as your hair becomes frizzless and static free.
Or else you could wear the beanie for eternity!
I have been using Nioxin Vitamins for my hair, i take one a day and it has made my hair healthier and makes it grow more then average it seems, Everyone tells me they cant believe how fast my hair grows, You might want to try that line of products for thinning hair, they also have a leave in treatment and shampoo.
The material from the stocking/beanie isn't going to affect your hair any differently than a pillow case would, since they'd be made out of a similar material. The issue you want to address with this though is how tight this cap would be. If it's pulling your hair, or straining it at all, then I'd suggest you seize wearing the cap to bed.
I shampoo every other day at the moment, though, I use organic shampoo, so it's not harsh on my hair at all. I'm trying to lengthen the time between when I have to shampoo again as well. I would definitely suggest you don't shampoo your hair more than once every other day, as you could be drying it out. And I would suggest using an organic shampoo; I'm using one that has olive oil in it. ^^
As for hair vitamins, as long as you're taking good care of your hair, not drying it out, as well as letting the natural oils from your scalp (sebum) spread about, I don't think you need to go to any extra lengths for vitamins.
I have thin hair (Blond) and wash everyday. It looks matted down and greasy otherwise.
Whats with the hat, are you cold where you live?
