Hello everyone! Summer vacation just started for me last Thursday, so to kick off the summer I decided to post a few update pictures, it has been about 16 months since my last hair cut. My last hair cut had my bangs cut a half inch or so above my eyebrows. It has been a good 16 months, while there have been a fair amount of people that every now and then say something to the effect of "you should get your hair cut", it has not been an issue ever where the person is harassing me, and I am grateful for that.
Earlier this year I stopped using shampoo and rarely using conditioner for about 10 weeks to see if my hair would decide its better off without such things, alas after the 10 weeks were done my hair was still oily, so I gave up on no shampoo. Then I tried to use less shampoo then I had before, shampooing only every 4 (and later 3) days, but alas, that too failed, and I ended up right back where I started, shampooing/conditioning every other day. My hair told me what it needed, and I listened. Good luck to anyone who experiments to see what works best for their hair.
I wish everyone at MLHH a good summer, grow long and prosper.
very nice, can you tie it into a ponytail yet?
Looks great. Hope you enjoy your summer off. The hair does tell us what's best... mine usually shampooing every 4 days or so.

Your hair looks fantastic, Ryan. It is good that you found a perfect hair care routine that works best for you. (Everyone is different, so one size does not fit all when it comes to hair care.) Do keep growing it for sure.

Being a faithful metalhead I have visited my fair share of metal gigs since I started growing my hair, in this post I will share some of these stories and I invite you all to post stories about memorable gigs you have attended, whether they be metal or not.
The first metal gig (and the first gig period) I ever attended was in SF at Thee Parkside to see SWAATS, Abysmal Dawn, Daath, Goatwhore, and Abigail Williams. The first metal gig one ever attends is a rather interesting experience, you see videos of the bands playing live on youtube and yet being there is just completely different. Daath was the reason I went and they put on a good show, Goatwhore had a great stage presence though and so they caught my attention as one of those bands its great to see live. I bought a t shirt to support Daath and went on my merry way home, listening to the Howard Stern Show on the way there and back with my dad.
Second gig I went to see was Ensiferum/Blackguard/Lazarus AD once again in SF at the DNA Lounge, Ensiferum was the reason I came and they put on a great show, their music is very lively so it was a good time. I was also introduced to Lazarus AD there, and thus found another good band I enjoy.
3rd gig I went to was Arch Enemy/Exodus/Arsis/Mutiny Within at the Grand Regency Center in SF, I didn't get to see Arsis or Mutiny Within because about an hour (halfway >_>) into the drive I realized we didn't have our tickets, so we started driving back and had my mom (great mom that she is) drive out with the tickets and hand them off, I arrived right before the start of Exodus set. Exodus and Arch Enemy played well, but Exodus' singer looked so out of place in his sports jersey, they also had their former vocalist come up and do an old song with them since he lives in SF, which was very cool.
Finally the last gig I attended was also in SF (clearly the place to be for metal gigs), seeing Suidakra/Cormorant/Ashkira. Suidakra is a folk metal band from Germany that has been around since 1994(?), whereas Cormorant and Ashkira were local SF bands. Cormorant was the reason I went to the gig, their music is mindblowing, they only have one album out so far so they are fairly unknown, they played 2 unreleased songs at the gig, both of which I caught on tape (see link for one). Suidakra was awesome as well, they have a great stage presence and really seem like down to earth guys, was a treat to see them live, their music is great too.
I was meant to go see Mastodon/Baroness/BTBAM/Valient Thorr in Reno but it decided to snow in the mountains leading to Reno on the day of the gig, and lacking a four wheel drive vehicle I could not attend =[, oh well you win some you lose some.
Now I have told my share, anyone care to share their experiences?
Unreleased Cormorant Song Live
Based on all the metal gigs you are going to you must live some
where here in California. Cool hair by the way.
Your hair looks fine and is a testimony to the fact that everyone should find a care regime that suits them NOT follow prescriptive rules that may work for their author but no one else.
Hi Ryan,
Thank you for sharing your update with us, and you have come such a long ways in a relatively short period of time. Your hair is in excellent condition and grow squickly, and I am glad that you have found a routine that works for you.
Keep it growing,
David
Hi Ryan,
Thanks for posting those great pictures of you and your hair. You even smiled in this one:)Sounds like you put a lot of effort into developing a routine that works for you. That's the way to do it as everyone's hair is different so tinkering around is what needs to be done.Having straight hair like we do makes caring for it easier. Also you can achieve a longer length faster.Kudos to a job well done to date but I'm sure your not done growing yet;)
That was an interesting read on all those shows you mentioned seeing in SF.On my next trip out that way I'd like to check out some of the clubs. My clubbing was all done in the NY/NJ area which does attract some big acts. One of my favorite clubs was L'amour "The Rock Capital of Brooklyn".Saw some amazing shows there back in the 80s.Also it was cool seeing all the longhaired dudes as spectators like me.I would say almost every guy who went there for a show had long hair.It was longhair heaven:)Have a great holiday weekend my friend.Cheers
Mark
