Not much change in the hair department on my end, at least not on my scalp. I've grown my beard back out from the goatee I'd been wearing for a while. I've started toying with the idea of letting the beard grow for a while, especially after Bill's inspirational contest win the other day (belated congrats, Bill!!).
Anyway, here's the pic...

It looks good to me. You have a super mane. From what I see in the photo, it appears to have reached maximum length (or nearly so). Do grow your beard for sure. It may grow longer than you might expect. A long beard goes very well with a long mane for sure.
Scott
Thanks, Scott. I'm not sure about the maximum length, I've thought I was at terminal a couple times, but it's gotten a bit longer anyway, so I've given up worrying about it. :D
As for the beard, I'm still considering, and I have yet to broach the subject with the spousal unit, so not sure how thrilled she'll be with the notion.

Here is food for thought. A long beard is soft and fluffy and a lot less prickly than a 1/2" to 3/4" 'stache or goatee for sure.
I know there is that growing out period where the beard is prickly. Once it is over about 1 1/2" long the prickliness will go away.
Scott
The length I've generally had mine at is already long enough to be past the prickly point, except for maybe in the first few days after one of my periodic trims.
For that matter, I'm still not sure I'm completely sold on the idea. Previously I haven't been the biggest fan of longer beards, but the idea is starting to "grow" on me (pun completely intended).
That's a great looking head of hair as it looks amazing when loose!
Looks very thick all the way to the ends:)I've also started experimenting letting my goatee grow out longer. Will be interesting to see what happens as it is unchartered territory for me.Cheers
Mark
Thanks, Mark :D
Hi Frodo,
It is always good to see an update from you, and you have such amazing thickness and length. You are an inspiration!
Keep it growing,
David
Wow. Don't think I've ever been called an inspiration before. Cool.
wow looks graet Frodo! I say your def past classic length a little bit. How long have you been growing your hair to this point, it looks awesome!
Thanks, Mark. As of next month it will be seven years from a short crewcut.
Thanks!
The only way to see what your beard could turn out to be is let it grow, let it grow, let it grow! I was surprised with a mediocre hair length and thickness to find my beard length and thickness to be way above average.
I did not win at the national contest in Bend, by the way, and I did not expect to. The competition there was intense, and some of the beards were spectacular. I did compete, though, and I was glad I did. By doing so I got to meet many of the other competitors and the weekend turned out to be a lot more fun than had I just gone to watch.
One guy there had an 8 foot long beard. It was so long it would have dragged across the ground had he not curled the last few feet of it up and held it in his hand as he walked. Many had thick beards to their waists. However, the judging was on more than thickness and length, and some did quite well with relatively short beards.
I realized that judging beards is a lot like judging American Idol. The judges can all differ and the public can differ from the judges, and none of them will succeed at naming the biggest star. All the men at Bend looked quite different in many ways from each other, and surely every one chose a look that he felt was attractive. Those judging have similar sentiments.
When I won the contest in San Francisco, the bar patrons voted, and the largest group among the patrons was twenty-something Tenderloin bar chicks. Maybe Jack Passion was too clean cut for their taste, and they liked my San Francisco hippie look, for all I know. Different sentiments were likely held by those choosing winners in Bend. Everyone has his or her own reason for voting, and no one knows why taste goes a certain way unless you ask them!
We'll have some photos up in a few days and I'll post a link to them here on MLHH.
Bill
Glad you had a great time Bill!
I guess judging beards is like tasting beer - a unique experience for each individual.

The ol mane is looking just grand there Frodo!
The full beard looks nice with it.

Yhanks, Oren
And that's what I get for typing before I have my morning coffee. Was supposed to be "Thanks", lol.
