Hello Everyone,
Even though I live far from Texas, I feel that this can be good news for the long hair crowd, and I hope that this is the beginning of a new trend.
As of next September, long-haired students will no longer be hassled by teachers and administration about hair length.
What I liked about the article, is the mention that school authorities should concentrate on making the school an environment for learning, and should not waste time, and / or taxpayer money drafting silly rules, and policing students on matters like hair length. There are higher priorities than that.
Back in 2006, I noticed a peak in articles about work places and schools banning long hair. I hope to see a reverse trend now.
Have a good day,
Georges in Montreal.

Interesting article, thanks for posting the link
Hey Mr. Frodo,
Just wanted to say, even though I am VERY late in doing so, that I eventually saw your update pic (the one that is WAAAY down the page by now)....
That is one impressive long mane you have -- so long, in fact, that for me to say my usual, "Keep it growing!" comment might in your case sound almost a bit silly (and yet, it would be great to STILL see it grow yet a bit longer)!
In any case, now that I've re-surfaced from a long absence of even not lurking much around here recently, just thought I'd give you a belated and enthusiastic CONGRATS!!!
"Onward & Downward!" (Or in your case, once it hits the floor.... LOL)

Thanks for the kind words, although I doubt I'm in any danger of my hair dragging the floor anytime soon, LOL.
Hi Georges,
Thanks for sharing that article and at least in some parts of the "Big flag" state common sense prevails :-) Let's hope other parts follow their lead.
Cheers,
John.B
There's still hope for Texas schools.
Thanks, Georges, it was so wonderful to read such an encouraging article -- and from Texas, of all longhair-forsaken places!
This gives me hope that common sense and fairness and logic eventually can prevail...
Thanks again!!

I've lived in Texas all my life and while I'll admit it tries to remain a haven for bigots and nincompoops in powerful positions, I suspect similar things go on elsewhere. There are no signs that say "stupid people only" at the state lines.
I hope other districts will take a cue from Lubbock and stop wasting time enforcing absurd and destructive rules, though. It would be nice if schools would at least pretend to exist primarily for the purpose of educating children rather than regimenting them into a submissive populous.
It's a little known fact that the American educational system is based on the German-Prussian system of the late 1800s. This system made the priority of schools not to give children the tools and courage to innovate, but to make them uniform pawns that will become good armies and be good consumers of a mass-production economy. That's why we're so good at buying the latest products and so lousy at solving the world's problems.
THANKS!!! Don't want to distract from long hair too much, but I took this little sidelight and ran with it this morning. Very interesting, and it answers a lot of questions. I read some online text and also watched this video:

I'm glad you threw this in. I never know where some new important nugget of knowledge will appear, and this is today's gold nugget.

That is rad. Less than 1/2 way through the video, I realized where it was leading up to. Way before it was mentioned at the end of the video, thoughts of Nazi Germany came to mind. Free thought must always reign, control freaks be damned. Heck, while you are at it, drop them all into a bottomless pit.

Geez, getting these insights changes everything. We see how George Bush, Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, etc. can get traction with millions of people. George Bush, etc. have a perfect right to exist like everybody else, but the scary part is when a huge chunk of population actually chooses to take them seriously. I was asking myself, "What the heck is wrong with our educational system?" Now I have some idea.
Found lots more on the subject with Google, Wikipedia, YouTube, etc.

Thanks for the heads-up on this excellent and informative video. Yet further reaffirmation that my wife and I have chosen correctly in homeschooling our four children (all of whom happen to have long hair... including the boys!).

Sorry, I incorrectly attempted to add the link to my previous post. Here it is...

Thank you for this Georges. Ain't it about time?
The best thing of all? This is in Texas, the great hair-hater state! Lol
