Hi folks. I'm only an occasional visitor here - but today is 16 years since my last trim.
As many older folks here will know, I have both MPB and an unspectacular terminal length, but I enjoy having enough hair for a ponytail every day and a braid every night.
Current project is growing out my sideburns - a bit uneven at the moment, but long enough to tie into a small ponytail of their own. The pic indicates the longest strands held by my fingers. Note the high tech piece of paper to show the contrast better.
Thank you to everyone for your encouragement, good luck to everybody, and here's to the next 23 years when I reach my goal of 39 years without a trim (I started regrowing at 39 years old).
So great to see your post and photo !!
When I first arrived here and expressed doubt as to whether I, as an older guy with MPB should even attempt the longhair journey, you were the one who encouraged me to "go for it". And I thank you profusely, Sir !! What a trip it has been so far.
Keep Well my friend and I look forward to following the next 23 years of your journey.
Walter
Hey, thanks - I am glad to learn that I have done something useful in my life.
Hope your next 23 years are as good as I hope for mine to be.
Sixteen years... WOW, that is indeed very impressive!! (I just celebrated reaching my tenth year since my devastating Y2K short haircut -- see my post below about that for more details...)
As best as I can remember, this is the first time you've ever shared a pic of yourself with us here. THANKS! It's great to have you come out of the shadows and share with us!!!
I LOVE your ponytail, and also think the long sideburns look cool as well!
MPB, receding hairlines, and hair-thinning due to age in general all suck -- Mother Nature's cruelest joke on men. The only way I've found to defy Mama Nature is to grow your hair long, anyway -- after all, having it short won't change anything about the MPB or hair-thinning; so why not at least have MORE of whatever we do still have on our heads?
Anyway, thanks again for your post here -- it's nice to finally get a glimpse of what you look like!

Thank you for your kind words - yes, I think it's my first pic - the first time I've had a photo source with a url.
Congrats on your ten years from Y2K - I read about that - and let's keep on showing that even oldies can enjoy their hair as much as anyone else.
Well done.
39 years no trims! The trimmers won't like that.
Thanks for the comments.
Kevin
They certainly won't like that - but one of the greatest benefits of long hair is that it gives you choices.
Hi bte,
Cheers to you for sticking to your guns, and for such a long period of growing. Your determination is a true sign that long hair is for everyone, no matter how thick or thin your hair is. Thank you for sharing your photo too, and here's to many more years of growing!
Keep it growing,
David
Thank you for your kind words - I certainly plan to keep right on growing.
Looking great bte!
Quantity doesn't matter as much as the quality of enjoying what each of us are genetically endowed with.
May the best be ahead of you!

Thank you - enjoyment is the key.
Happy growing!
Congratulations for your determination, MPB can't stop a man from growing his hair long!
But how long is your hair?
Thanks for the congrats - to answer your question, the ponytail is about 11 inches long and has been for the last twelve years or so. I don't use the method of measuring from the hairline above the eyes for obvious reasons!
so no records being broken by length, but there's enough for a worthwhile ponytail, and I haven't gone grey yet, so I'll settle for that.
