Has anyone here ever had what I refer to as "the dream"? So last night I had a dream that I cut my hair. This dream seemed very real. In the dream I wanted to cut it, but after I did, I instantly regretted it and was very sad and angry. I woke up and realized after a second that I was only dreaming and was extremely relieved! I had a similar dream when I quit smoking that I smoked and in the dream was heartbroken. That actually is a common dream among ppl who quit smoking and I was wondering if this silly little haircut dream happened to others as well. -Jason
No I haven't had a dream where my hair was cut. However I have had dreams where I had waist length hair. I believe dreams like yours are communications from your subconsious mind where we dream of our wants and desires as well as our fears which we often are not fully consciously aware of and issues we can have buried in our subconscious arise in our dreams whilst asleep in dreamworld.
The first dream about the haircut I would think was a warning from your higher self not to cut your hair as you would rue it.The emotion you felt after the haircut in your dream I feel says that you still want to have long hair at a subconsious level. Maybe the desire to cut your hair experienced in your dream indicates that you sometimes feel a bit ambigious to having or growing out long hair and sometimes feel some doubt from time to time. That is normal to have especially on hot days or bad hair days when it might come up from time to time. Other people on the board have spoken of their doubts in posts here.
The smoking dream i think is telling you to continue to not to smoke and if you smoked again would be betraying your principles to remain healthy and hence be a betrayal of your body by subjecting it again to unhealthy horrible habits. Your heartbroken feeling is when you have done the hard miles in staying off cigarettes and destroying all the good work up to then. (just think of alcoholics falling off the wagon and relapsing) It's just tough to have to go through the process again through cold turkey withdrawals. I quit smoking 12 years ago and it took me 18 months of hell before the temptation went away for good.

I'd second that.
I've also had "the dream" twice, but one was in reverse.
I cut my mid-back-length hair about 20 years ago, then, about five years ago, I started to think about growing it again. At that point, I dreamt I had long hair again. When I woke up, I was really disappointed that it was still a No.2 crop! I took that as a sign, and have only had one haircut since then.
The second one was a few weeks ago. I'd been feeling a bit frustrated with my hair. It's at a length now where my braid gets in my way - little things like the end landing in my plate when I sit down for a meal, and so on. One night I dreamt that I'd cut it off, and was actually glad to have done so! But then I missed the long hair too. There are times when I miss the short hair, but to be honest, I think I'm a lifer.
Sometimes I miss the "convenience" of short hair, but I think the benefits of having long hair outweigh any inconvenience. On top of that, short hair takes more maintenance - unless it's in to the wood. I used to have to wash and style it every day for work. To be honest, I used to spend a lot more time and money on my hair then than I do now! These days, brushing and braiding my waist-length hair takes under five minutes. I used to spend longer than that just drying it, and then there was the time spent adding gel or wax to get it to look presentable.
i would say that you had thought about cutting it, and the dream is the way your mind shows hou how you'll feel after you cut it off...... without actually cutting it off.
just as a smoked ( quitting ) had teh thought that they really want a smoke, and they have a dream so that they see how disappointed with themselves they will be, without actually having that smoke.
Hi Jason,
Before I ever successfully grew my hair out, I used to occasionally have dreams at night that my hair was long,-- probably because I used to day-dream about it; so it was something that my subconscious mind apparently thought a lot about.
Then when I actually DID grow my hair long (my first time being in the '90s), occasionally I would dream about it being short again...
I've never dreamed about any actual haircut itself, though (thank goodness -- I had too many of those in real life, back when I was a kid)!
The last dream I had of this type was a good 3 or more years ago, when I had a dream about being back in high school; but my hair was "shaggy" (what we mostly call "awkward stage" here) -- in other words, in the dream it was definitely longer than my dad allowed when I really WAS in high school; yet shorter than what I really wanted (which is as insanely looooooooong as I can possibly get - LOL)....
When I woke up, I was not only glad to find my long hair was still intact; but even more importantly, I was also happy to think back on the dream, realizing that I wasn't upset or stressed out about what I had / didn't have on top of my head... It was just a fun dream, one that did NOT cause me to worry or feel fear while I was in the middle of dreaming about it.

I had that dream just the other night. I was in a room where someone was looking for an actor for a play and they needed someone of a specific height because they already had the wardrobe. Conveniently, that height was my height and I was the only one around that fit the requirements. I was reluctant to do it because I have never been interested in theater or acting, but the person putting on the play was a friend of mine so I said I would do it. Then came the bombshell - I would have to cut my hair. My immediate reaction was, "That's not going to happen." I don't remember what happened after that, but when I woke up I was happy to know that my uncounscious mind isn't ready to part with my hair any more than my conscious mind is.
I've had that dream a bunch of times too. I always wake up and grab my hair and am happy again.
I've had that exact same dream a couple of times, it was pretty awful! Just strengthened my conviction that I'll always want my long hair.
I had that kind of dream before. I do not drink but I had a dream that I was drinking. i was not too happy.

I've never experienced "The Dream" I usually dream I'm flying through a mist shrouded valley or across a lake towards a large gleaming city. Strangely there are no people around.
Sigmund what does it all mean???
Kevin
Hi Kevin,
I will interpret your dream, even though I am an unlicensed therapist, and Sigmund himself would probably vehemently disagree with me on everything and anything I will say (LOL)....
The city you are flying towards is empty of people because you have scared them all away. The mist shrouded valley and the large lake you are flying over is subconsciously symbolic of your childhood bathtub -- and since you are flying around in the air without your clothes on, this might be the terror that the city folks below are experiencing and running away from. Subconsciously, you want to blame your mother for all of this; but since she regularly bathed you as a child, you can't. Also, the broom you are flying around on is symbolic of your worn-out favorite toothbrush, an ob ject of desire that you have always been secretly passionately in love with, but been in deep denial about...
Shall I go on? I haven't even gotten to the sex part yet (LOL)!!
