Another crazy question from yours truly. ;)
I do the majority of the cooking in our house since I like to experiment and spice up the food. When I was a short hair this was not a problem, especially since I use to wash my hair nightly.
Since becoming a long hair and learning how unhealthy washing your hair with shampoo every night is, a new problem was born. Food smells cling to the hairs and become bothersome. By morning it is very irksome.
So what do you do to eliminate food smells from your hair without washing it every night?
Wear a bathing cap while cooking?
Well, I don't really have this problem because I wash my hair a lot, sometimes twice a day, as I do a lot of hiking, running, and weight lifting so get very sweaty. I stay away from cheap "grocery store" products though.
This might work though. I use a lotion in my hair (Marc Anthony, Strictly Curls), doesn't leave your hair greasy or stiff, doesn't even feel like you have anything in at all... but it smells good, so it might mask the food and other odors your hair is picking up. Good luck!
Wear a chef cap :)
Hi Mikhael, go on over to wwwe.buffware.com and look at some of their head ware. It might help with both of your questions. They have have videos too of how handy the Buff can be.
Hoping your health improves.

Have never experienced the problem.
I do a lot of cooking and have never had any issues with smell.
My only thought is you have two options, either stop cooking spicy food or wash your hair more often. If you wash your hair more often simply use conditioner after each wash and your hair will be fine.
Kevin, you're a genius (and "a gentleman and a scholar and...") -- and I agree with you 100% (other than NEVER giving up cooking w/ spices - LOL)! I also want to respond directly to Mikhael's question, below...
Hi Mikhael,
The secret is simply this: sometimes as humans, we tend to take everything to the extreme -- EITHER we think we have to wash our hair literally "every night"; OR we assume that to protect our new longer hair, we now have to give up shampooing all together (or at least nearly so)...
The fact of the matter is: those are two EXTREMES -- but, if you think about it, there is a happy "middle ground"... Using myself, for example: usually I wash my hair only once a week; but once in awhile, if I need it, I'll shampoo twice a week -- and in even rarer situations, will shampoo 3X a week. It all depends upon many many factors (like: how sweaty and stinky I've gotten from long work days and/or gardening in hot, dirty weather and/or being more physically active than slower weeks, etc., etc., etc...
In a nut-shell: don't be afraid of shampoo, as it can be your friend! Just use a generous amount of conditioner afterward (as well as I apply a small amount of beneficial oil into the lower half of my mane as well), and your hair will be as good as new!!
Happy hair farming! (And happy cooking with a lot of spices, too!!)

Odors in my hair are never a problem for me while cooking. My hair is always tied back with multiple ties.
I also tuck my long beard under my shirt when cooking.
The only time my hair or beard seem to pick up any odor is from campfire smoke.
If you're cooking something particularly "fragrant" try simply tying your hair back or as another poster suggested, use a chef's hat.
