Hey guys,
As I continue on my journey of long hair, I find myself getting very frustrated about just how unmanageable my hair is. Right now it's down to my collar bone, but because of how thin it is, the simple act of walking indoors through still air is enough to get it blowing all over the place, like BADLY. It will blow up and out to the side, making me look like I stuck my finger in a light socket! A mere gentle breath of wind outside with mess it all up and frustrate me to no end, let alone what happens to it when it is actually truly WINDY outside.
What I'm wondering is, once it's quite a bit longer, say down to mid-back or so, will it stop blowing around so much, be heavier, stay in place better, and be easier to deal with? I'm ALWAYS wearing it in a tail when I'm out and about because it gets so messed up so quickly if I don't.
I wish there was a product out there that would make it heavier without making it look greasy, but I'd really like it to have some mass and semblance of order all on its own WITHOUT product, which I hope more length will provide.
Anyone else dealing with thin hair dealing with this same frustration? Why does my hair have to be so gosh darn thin to begin with? I don't have MPB but maybe my sucky diet and stress levels over the years have not allowed it to thicken up and grow out properly...
I'm 34 by the way, in case that matters.
Thanks for the shoulder guys.
How often are you shampooing it? Shampoo strips away natural oils that help weigh your hair down. At your stage I was able to get away with only shampooing twice a week. Now that I'm quite a bit longer I only shampoo weekly.
I don't shampoo at all, only co-wash.
I have superfine hair. It's much easier to deal with at mid-back than it was at collar length. It doesn't blow around as much and it doesn't seem to get as staticy.
The extra weight will help. Conditioner also helps against fly-away hair.
Thin and fine hair is genetic. If that's what you have, then that's how it stays. Nothing to do with diet. Mine has been like that all my life, and I don't have MPB.
MPB is said to cause thinning, but I think that's a misnomer. It causes hair LOSS on certain parts of the head, which starts by thinning out the number of hairs, but this is unrelated to your hair type. MPB is usually apparent by age 30 if it's going to progress to baldness.
It will get better as your hair grows longer.
You could also try using a little jojoba, sweet almond or coconut oil. Rub a drop between your palms and smooth it over your hair. You'll be surprised at the difference that makes, and it helps to condition your hair too. If you need more than a drop, just repeat, but always start off with the minimum, or you risk ending up with very greasy-looking hair.
I second that Viking, great advice!

I'll give them a try and see how it goes.
Hi Edward,
With added length, for sure, gravity will certainly help to make your hair a lot more manageable.

I also have really fine hair. I used to use a light mousse to add some weight and body to my hair, but now I don't need it.
