Give me strength!. People have asked why I have decided to let my hair grow through the summer, In Arizona. Believe me, it takes strength. It is not long enough to yet tie back. Perhaps by next summer. I hope. I can feel the hair just reaching the nape of my lower neck and is approaching the shoulders, perhaps by late August I can officially proclaim it shoulder length. I hope so, as I will be travelling to St. Louis, Mo to attend a large festival that will bring a whole lot of friends together from back in the late 60s, early 70s, a time when i and many others sported very long hair. 5 bands and a lot of good times in a suburban park. All arranged and approved by the city fathers. Food drink and good times, and the profits go to charity. It was this event that finally gave me the impetus to go ahead and "let it grow" Long may it wave!!
It may be a pain especially when you hair is too short to tie back but you say you have had long before so you know it'll be worth it, just keep it growing.
Sounds like my hair is your length. Not quite long enough to tie back, but long enough to be hot! I'm also hoping to reach the milestone in August. In the mean while I use a a thin band to keep my hair back. The band I use has a rough surface too which allows you to move it far back on your head without it slipping off, works great in this heat!
I know what you mean, it is really hot here in Florida and my hair is also too short to tie back. Just hang in there, it will be worth it!
Thanks guys; I know I can get through the heat, it is no stranger to me. My hair is down to my shoulders in the back and gettin' there on the sides now. it is starting to develop the waviness I remember form long ago. not curly, just a gentle wave as it grows.
I'm in AZ too and yes, it is HELL!
I know my situation and climate are different, but long hair's pretty good in the heat and sunshine. Loose, mine acts a sunshade for my back and it does actually keep things cooler if you're moving around, because as your hair moves, it creates air currents over your skin.
During the awkward stage and for a while after, it can be very hot, but eventually, if you keep growing it, the weight of hair pulls it down so you don't have as much heat retention.
Aussie here -
Have you tried a bandanna at all? During our summer I tend to use them, and they work well enough - although I wouldn't be wearing one to the office :P
