Hi there to all of you beautiful long haired lions!
I have a question about combing and brushing long hair, and prevent possible losing hairs.
If i wash my hair, combing it wet, then there is nothing to worry about. But, after 1 or 2 days after i washed it, and i'm brushing it in the morning, then my comb is full of hairs.
Maybe 20 or 25 hairs? Is that normal if you have long hair?
And is it wise to take vitamins to stimulate the hair growth? Like Brewers Yeast, MSM or Biotin?
Greetz :)
I've heard that a normal, healthy head can lose up to 100 hairs a day. New ones are growing in to replace them constantly. So I wouldn't worry a bit about hairs in your brush.
Of course, as they get longer, they are both more likely to stay (tangled) in your hair til brushed or combed out and look more dramatic afterwards. It actually doesn't take all that many yard long hairs to make up a faux small mammal!
If you lose 100 hairs per day, that's 36,500 per year. If your hair grows a half inch per month and has a terminal length of three feet (six years), you'd need 219,000 hairs on your head to maintain the status quo. With a terminal length of four feet, you'd need 292,000. 365,000 for a terminal length of five feet. About 100,000 strands is an average head of hair, so shedding more than 30 strands per day is probably an omen.

Very true, you have a scientific mind like I do. With 100,000 hairs and losing 100 per day would mean a life cycle of only 1000 days for a hair strand. At 1/2" per month (or 1/60 of an inch per day) your terminal length would be 16.7".
Let's see, my hair is over 3 feet long, so I certainly lose less than 50 per day. Due to length, 20 of my shed hair strands looks like a lot.

Quite normal - hair continuously renews itself.
Okay okay, that's new information for me :)
So, losing up 20/25 hairs in your Brush each day is quite normal. Hmmmm....
It's get me frightened to see those lose hairs.
And what about you guys, what are your experiences with long hair and lose hairs?
Well, here is a photo from me, sitting in a tree xD
I think I'm growing my hair for, two and a half, three years now.
First thing that came to mind for me is it's the first installment to Ken's "Take an outdoor hair picture" contest:)LOL.
You look great up in that treetop dude!
As for hair shedding I experience that myself around the end of summer in September and into October.Seems like clockwork that it happens then.During the winter it levels off quite a bit to almost a fraction of the late summer shed.Hope this helps my friend.Oh, welcome to the mlhh before I forget!LOL. Cheers

Agreed, great photo of you. And yes I seem to lose quite a few during the day, so I wouldn't worry about it. It's summertime and shedding season afterall ha ha. Quite nice progress in growth you have there.
Completely normal dude. If you keep worring about it, your goin to get yourself into a panic. I don't have long hair anymore for personal reasons but I used to shed like crazy.
Good Luck, Joe
