Hi Hairy People,
To make this year's photo "contest" to be as inclusive to all as possible, I'm changing the name of the contest to be the following:
"First Annual Longhaired Outdoor Photo Contest"
I'm still planning / organizing a local longhair meet here in San Francisco this fall; but, by all means, everyone should please feel free to organize other local longhair meet-ups in your own part of the world, -- the more, the hairier!
Since Northern Calif. is home to many exotic and bizarre-looking plants, the focus for our local SF Meet this fall will be to take pics of long hair and odd plants together (think: Dr. Suess or Alice in Wonderland with Xtra hair on top)...
Some of our long-time members here will remember Karsten -- an outstanding MLHH photographer if there ever was one! I always found his pics to be consistently original, creative, and full of whimsy and surprise -- and ALWAYS taken outdoors. I miss his fine contributions to this board, and hope he is doing well after his long illness (including some hair loss afterward). If he is reading this, I hope he drops by to say hello and tell us how he's doing.
Bill, Jason, John B., and countless others I'm temporarily not thinking of right now are also superb photographers and artists in their own right. So, my goal in trying to start this up is to bring out the best and most creative side to all who are interested in going beyond the average typical indoor MLHH "hair update" -- hence the emphasis on OUTDOOR photography.
We can wait until January of 2011 to make this "contest" something like: "The Best Longhaired Outdoor Pics of 2010", -- which should give everyone plenty of time to read their camera's instruction manual (LOL)
How do people "win" in this contest? (you might be asking that question right now....)
Well, EASY: just post your outdoor longhaired pic right here at MLHH. The guys with the most enthusiastic and positive replies in each different longhaired photo category wins... (drum-roll, please)....
Your own self-paid ca$h prize of whatever amount you desire!!!!!!!
(How's that for "generosity" on my part as the photo contest organizer? - LOL)
Now that you know all the mega-$$$ that's at stake here in winning this "contest", I'm sure all your engines are loudly revving up to get going and start snapping your camera's shutter ASAP...
I'll keep y'all posted (and maybe even a bit ANNOYED - lol), as further details miraculously emerge themselves, as time continues to roll along this summer...

Hi Ken, I really like your idea of outdoors hair shoots and a real life meetup too:)As we talked about by phone last week there are some cool things going on in SF in the months ahead.Would be a great time to set something up for us out of towners. You guys who live there are fortunate enough to meet up whenever the mood hits.Lets see how this unfolds as the summer progresses.Cheers my friend:)

Hey Mark,
Here's a little preview of some of the hairy horticultural wonders that abound in and around SF...
My sister-in-law is currently visiting from IL right now, staying at my niece's new apartment they just moved into near the park. We took a nice walk through the park just yesterday, this pic being one out of four that she took of me next to this "hairy" tree that we were both fascinated by...
Enjoy!!

Hi Ken,
That is such an interesting piece of plant life that does resemble a giant longhair!LOL.Imagine if it had giant dreadlocks on top of it.
Well I'm sure you are giving your sister-in-law a fine SF tour like you did for me even though I'm sure you did some with her in the past.Every tour probably gets more comprehensive the more you take...right!I know mine was a general overview but still I saw so much and I thank you for that:)I'll look forward to my next SF adventure for sure!Cheers my friend.

One of these in a more exposed location (wind and curious fingers) will develop dreadlocks.
Hey Ken
Neat idea and if ONLY my "Uncle Elmer" (1879-1921) shown above had been photographed once he was through the Awkward Stage I am most sure the photo would WIN the prize! (Alas, according to family members now deceased, "Elmer" was "Kidnapped" and put in a zoo.) Can you imagine? An outrage! They said his long hair reached his tail, and, some kind of plant eventually grew on top of his head. Amazing!!!
Take care-
Justin~
I can't think of a thing to say.... I'm speechless!
A wabbit. I'm gonna make a wabbit stew!
You should entitle it: "Mini Loo". That is one of the smallest ones I have seen with a flush toilet. I have seen portables larger than that.
What would be really cool would be to have a guy with knee length hair standing in front of it with his back facing the camera. (I would pose for you if I lived nearby.)

Hey, that's not funny... How DARE you take a photo of our private family vacation home without first getting written permission?
I mean, at the very least, give me some time to be a proper host and stir up the "punchbowl" for some refreshing drinks!
[grin]
Hi Ken,
Thanks for your concern. All is well and hair is getting back normal. The excessive shedding has ceased and new hair is growing in places my hair fell out following surgery so bald spots are gone.
I have not taken a camera along much this summer but did manage to take a few pictures this month. Have not done much in the "hair-fun" catagory of photos but your contest has peaked my interest in doing so again.
Also, would like to recommend a shampoo I have been using called Christophe Anti-Frizz which can be found at CVS. Used in conjunction with Aussie conditioner I have not had to use a brush on my hair since starting to use it about a month ago. I just use a wide tooth comb and finger comb and I have less tangling than ever before with my current length. (I wash once a week.)
