Went to DC yesterday, and saw the Sunset Parade put on by the US Marine Corps Band and Silent Drill team. Among the band's selections was a medley of songs from the musical "Hair". Found it fairly amusing and ironic to hear the Marines, champions of the "high and tight" haircut, playing a song that celebrates long hair. :D

p.s. If you're in the area, and you like drum & bugle music or military drill performances, they put on a heck of a show.
...the inner core (marine corps) shows through !!
Longhair music !!
Works for me !!
What a tremendous display of the 8th and I Marine corp band that performs at Sunset. We saw them in June as well as at a Marine Generals funeral at Arlington Cemetery.
WOW, that definitely is ironic to think about them playing songs from "Hair!"
I grew up right next to Great Lakes Naval Training Station (I hope I have the correct title there -- it's south of Waukegan, IL; but north of Lake Bluff, the town I grew up in). Every Memorial Day and other similar holidays he'd bring us kids there to see and hear the marching bands. Being in the navy during WW2 was apparently the highlight of his life. He was vehemently anti-longhair, though... I wonder what he'd think about the marching band playing a song from Hair!!!

You're close. The base itself is simply Naval Station Great Lakes, with the Recruit Training Command and Naval Training Command as tenants. I've been there once, to attend my son's graduation. I went to the boot camp in San Diego, before they closed that and the one in Orlando.
