I have shorter hair, but I like to go out some times in public with long hair - so I wear a really nice, expensive wig that is straight cut to my waist with bangs. I really like the feel of the long hair, done up nice - its worth the stares I get.
My favorite look is to pull the side up to a braided bun at the top of the back of my head and hold it with "chopsticks". When I am out like this I also wear a pair of larger silver or gold hoop earrings. I up dress sharp in a denim shirt, slacks and loafers.
Anyone else have the same "hobby"?
I have very thin hair and am somewhat bald on top. I really would like to have long hair and was thinking about trying wigs. Thanks for the encouragement. I think I will start with something shoulder length.
I started with the shorter wigs, and cheaper quality too. I didn't like having them all snarled up after a short while. And I guess they just kept getting longer. Also, the longer it is, the more I can do with it and the more "risky" it is to be seen.
Some times I pull it back over my ears and and tie it loosely at the top of my shoulders. Since it is slightly wavy it makes a very full ponytail to just above my belt line. Many men have their hair longer, but I love the looks when others see cascading down to my waist.
I will also pull it all to my left side in front and tie it - a very feminine style, but it looks good.

Dear F.T.,
If you mean, does the thought of going out en femme, in an outfit that I don't mind being seen in, with beautiful hair and makeup to match appeal to me - then I'm definitely in the same hobby.
Please visit my web site:

My site has very much a "hair" orientation, but I think you will see from the home page portrait at least, that I love making myself beautiful enough to go out. I love the going out as well.
Love,

Being one of the roller guys I'm always looking for new styles to try. I bought a wiglet and blend it with my hair after a roller set. It gives so much more fullness and body and you can do so much more with it. I'm thinking of buying a longer one so I will be able to do an updo.
hi,
i finally talked my boyfriend into wearing a longer wig (mid back) sometimes if we are out having fun. he thought it was WEIRD at first, but now he loves it. it dark auburn, wavy, and parted on the side. just a couple months ago he finally gave in and got his ears pierced like you. he really looks great and i get alot of envy looks from other women when we are out.
hope you have fun like us!!!
YES, YES, YES! I thought I was the only one that did this. I'm amazed. I have a 44" straight hair wig that I wear out about once a month. I have to wear a hat to "convince" people it's my own hair, and I usually wear either a bow or a feminine barette. I also sometimes wear earrings. I'm a little limited in what I can do, as the more you pull the hair off your neck or face, the more chance there is you will be "clocked." Please tell me more about your trips, where you go, what you do, how people react to you, etc. Thanks!
I go out about twice a month, where I take a long lunch, "dress up" at a remote location (no one knows I do it). Once in a while I will get a whole afternoon or evening to be out on the weekend.
I tend to go to the downtown spots of Portland, OR or hit the "funkier" areas of town, bookstores like powells are neat. The suburban malls don't work very, people are not very open minded, and the chance of getting spotted by someone I know it greater.
I try to go for a more feminine guy look. Bangs help hide the fact it is a wig. If I tie my hair loosely back at the base of my neck or lower, it makes a full pony tail to my waist, and covers my ears, this is my favorite time to wear hoop earrings, since they hang out from the hair; very nice effect.
I also let it loose at times, parting it on the sides and letting it hang over right side of my face. I may gather a small amount in the back and make a high bun or ponytail for effect.I do the new hair claws too.
Last time I was out, I actually had a young lady sales clerk (I'm 30) follow me around the store for 15 minutes at a distance staring at me.
I felt great. Most of the looks are double takes then short to long stares. Quite a few women smile at me, a guy once in a while too.
I dont really interact with people when Im out, I just like to be seen.
F.T., Do you have an e-mail address? I'd love to chat more about this. Thanks.

>YES, YES, YES! I thought I was the only one that did this.
Nope! In the words of the immortal Yoda, "There is another..."
My own hair has pretty much stopped growing due to a medical problem.
To give you an example, I just a haircut and less than 1/2" was
taken off since my last cut in the early fall.
I hope this discussion of wigs hasn't turned off any of the guys out
there who can proudly grow and wear their own hair as long as they
want. Some of us would be like you in a heartbeat if it were possible. I am in a job situation that is hair-friendly, but my
follicles won't cooperate. So we make the best of it any way we
can. When someone here says "I love the feeling of my hair swishing
against my shoulder blades (or pecs)", I nod and say, 'yeah, me too'.

I have several different colors and styles that I wear depending on
my mood. Most are long and straight, down to my butt, but I have
a couple that are shoulder length and wavy.
Do you wear a hat because the scalp doesn't look natural? I look first for a wig that has a 'skin top' because it looks better close
up. And on a couple I've stitched the crown together from front
to back so that the hair forms a more natural center part line.
I've gotten pretty good at taking a cheap stock wig and making it
look better.
My source has been www.wigs.com. They have a great selection, you
just have to imagine how they'd look on a masculine face. One of
my wavy shoulder-length ones is 'wild cat', in a dark brown, for example. I also have a supplier in NYC that has good prices.
>the more you pull the hair off your neck or face, the more chance >there is you will be "clocked."
It really helps when the wig color is closest to your own hair color.

I used to be in a band with a lot of dudes with really long hair.
So I stuck out like a sore thumb until I "grew" my hair. They were
really supportive. I found out quickly that you had to have a
really good wig, (anchored securely!) and spend a lot of time
'customizing' it so that it looked a little unkempt and more natural
(especially up against the hair of the other guys in the band!)

When we used to travel with the band, sometimes I'd have it on for
an entire weekend depending on the schedule. After you get used to
it, you tend to forget it's there. They were really cool about it,
too. That helped a lot.

When I go out now, I usually go for the rocker look. Black t-shirt
with a design, tight slightly torn jeans, white high-tops, and a black satin jacket. The wig falling over the jacket doesn't tend to get too tangled up against the satin material.

I don't mind _either_ looking me over! :-)

Another idea is to braid the wig and make a bun down at the base of the neck with a scrunchie, leaving some shorter front locks, that I let hang or put behind my ears. I wear this with a black turtle neck and jeans. I wear silver hoops in my ears and a silver pendant on a necklace to match. I have been tinking about doing the new guys dark nail polish with this but haven tried it yet.
Wow! 44 inches. That must be thigh or knee length. How much does such a wig cost? What is the quality of the hair?
It's about thigh length, and it costs about $150. Quality is really pretty good.
Do you usually wear it loose or tied back? What color?
You have an email address?
How long have you been wearing the wigs out?
I also wear my hair short because of some tattoos I have on my head, but I like long hair and have a number of hair pieces. I have found a wig source on the internet which is very good. They make custom hair pieces, human or synthetic hair, up to 18 inches in length for $392. They are very high quality and you can order various densities of hair from 200-500 hand tied hairs per inch. If you send them a pioture they will reproduce it in style and color or you can order them without any cutting and do it yourself or go to your favorite stylist to cut it. They have a custom hair fitting kit which results in a very nature hair piece which fits very good. You can also choose type of base and get a mesh front which allows you to style it back off your face without anyone knowing you have a hair piece.
