Hi guys,
I used to post on this board quite a few years ago and had been growing my hair on and off. This time I'm determined to reach my goal of shoulder length hair.
But anyway, I may be using this forum, from time to time for advice. I apologize that I will not be posting pictures of myself to protect my privacy online.
So I wanted to ask, when reaching your goal length how do some of you determine what stylists you can and can not trust when it comes to getting trims?
I've heard stories of salon stylists more or less enforcing the expectations of the fashion industry to what hairstyles are fashionable
FOR GUYS GROWING LONG HAIR. BEWARE THE SALONS!!!!!
Good to have you back, and good luck with your journey.
Trust? Salon stylists? Unfortunately that's a bit of an oxymoron, as many here and on other long hair sites will tell you.
I can't help you with trying to find someone you can trust, as I have never paid for a cut or a trim in my life (my parents paid up to the age of 14, and from then until I gave up trims/cuts entirely at the age of 39 I relied on family members, who were not any more trustworthy than the professionals), bt I would suggest finding someone who supports your desire to grow who has a reasonably steady hand might be as good a solution as any. Otherwise, you could change your goal length to terminal, which saves money, time and the need to make decisions.
Hi there,
Welcome back to the clan and glad you are growing you hair out again. As many people have said before only go to someone you really trust or have a friend with longhair that knows someone. As we've had many horrors stories here.
Well it's a bit late for me my pictures us, oh well so much for my privacy! Just a thought not even from the back?
Cheers,
John.B
I saw that video posted on here a rather long time ago. It's true, though.
If you do visit a hair shop only use a stylist who has waist length hair. Never use one that wears a bob or short hair.
A fellow long hair as a rule of thumb would have more empathy and understanding of your goals for longer hair.
Or find a buddy who also has long hair or is growing long hair to trim your hair and you trim theirs if needed.
My two cents worth,
Duncan
Well, I hate to say this, Duncan, but the best hair stylist I ever went to had short hair -- BUT, because he had a longhair following (mostly women), he was EXCELLENT (he did EXACTLY as I asked, when I asked for no more than an inch cut off, he only cut off a half-inch)... Don't always judge a book by its cover!
This stylist was very expensive, though: $65 for the hair wash & trim (not even including tip)!!
As the saying, goes, "You get what you pay for!"

Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement. I've actually decided to link my update pics again so you guys can see how I'm progressing.
As for the trims, I think I will follow the advice of asking a friend. But then again, I won't have to worry about that for a while.
Thanks again.
PS, I've included a link of my current hair length in the above thread "2 Month Update"
