Had my first experience of having my hair in a bun the other night. Was visiting with friends, who invited us to make use of their hot tub. Not wanting to have to deal with wet hair, I asked the lady of the pair if she could help me with putting it up to stay out of the water.
I have to say it was convenient, but would definitely take some getting used to. Unfortunately, there is no pictorial evidence of the event for me to share.

Nice - I usually twirl my hair up in a bun to keep it dry when I take a "quick" shower as I only do a full hair wash about once a week these days.

I've got a shower cap I use for such occasions, and just bundle it up under that.
Given the length of your hair - which is waaay past mine, you may want to experiment a bit with hair-sticks. For most days I use the U-shaped hair pins that I've found at WalMart as "ballet pins" since they don't stick out.
I was in a car accident a few weeks ago and am convinced that my bun saved me from whiplash - acted as a "hair bag" :D
WOW, Andrew, that's an amazing story -- and great thing to keep in mind! Thanks for sharing it!
