Long time reader but first time poster looking for advice. My hair is currently down to my eyes now but it is thin curly hair that tends to afro. I am of Jewish descent and my hair is taking its course, it looks very similar to Andy Samberg's hair to be honest and I'm trying to avoid this. It gets 100x worse especially down here in the Florida humidity.
I am looking to straighten it and have been reading endlessly on Keratin treatments (specifically "Liquid Keratin") and no-lye relaxer systems. I still haven't come to a conclusion and was wondering if I could get the forum's opinion on this? I plan on growing my hair out to my shoulders and need help bad.
A photograph would be helpful, even a rear view if you prefer.
I am certainly not attracted to any form of relaxers and chemicals. I do wonder if growth and therefore weight keeping the hair down naturally might be the way though a Don King appearance may not be good!
Hey thanks for the reply, I uploaded 3 pics. The 2 on the left are pics after I woke up. The far right one is how my hair normally is after I washed it in the shower and it's dried. It is very "poofy" as you can tell. If I add some product it typically just looks weighted down and curly. I can brush it out into a fine afro as well.
I want it straighted and better moisturized. Currently I use Aveda's Pure Abundance Thickening Shampoo/Conditioner 3x a week and I've tried endless products as well. I also apply a Minoxidil/Finasteride topical morning and night. I will also add a leave in conditioner and then use some coconut oil before I go out in public.
I have similar hair that has the tendency to "fro up" when I'm growing it out. Was great in college, but growing it out this time in grad school I started looking for ways to tame the beast. I found a Marc Anthony product called strictly curls that works well. It is a whole line of products, although what I use the most is the after shower gel. It helps a lot to weigh down the hair and take some curl out. At this point my hair is getting long enough that it does a good job weighing itself down, but I also found washing less and combing my hair under cold water in the shower helped a lot with frizz. I'm also from Florida, so understand the humidity problem! Although, I'm up in MA these days - looking forward to having some head warmth this winter :)
