NFL player Troy Polamalu gets $1m hair insurance
Troy Polamalu in a hand-out picture provided by Procter and Gamble Troy Polamalu's hair has won him lucrative sponsorship from hair product manufacturers
The long curly hair that sticks out of NFL football player Troy Polamalu's helmet has been insured by a shampoo company for $1m (£650,000).
Polamalu, a defender for the Pittsburgh Steelers, has been tackled at least once by his distinctive 3ft-long (1m) hair which hangs down his back.

Hi John ..
Cool info. If anybody's hair needs the insurance I think it would be Troy's. I bet the other team absolutely loves to try and pull him down by it. I've seen that more than once. - poor guy. - can't feel too good.
Thanks for posting John..

Troy has some of the most awesome hair any man can have... He's been growing his long locks out since college. Bully for him and his HAIR insurance!

It is absolutely true. He has very bushy and big hair, super thick and volumous. Absolutely gorgeous. Head And Shoulders has indeed insured his hair for one million US dollars.
For some reason, Lloyd's of London first popped into my head. They insure the unusual.

That reason may be because (according to the article, at least) LoL was indeed the insurer -- Head & Shoulders is the beneficiary. Troy's actually been endorsing H&S for a little over a year now, which may be why they took out the policy.
At one point a few years ago, the NFL was threatening to force Troy to cut his hair to a length that didn't obscure the 43 on his back, but eventually backed down. The ostensible reason for this was that his helmet doesn't fit as well, but anyone who watched the Steelers-Broncos game on Sunday would have seen James Farrior's helmet go shooting off like a bottle rocket, and Farrior's head is completely shorn. One more reason not to cut -- it could save your life!

I did see parts of that game, and do recall a helmet getting knocked off. It is a fairly frequent occurence. A full head of thick hair would likely help to retain a helmet during a hard hit.

That's funny and I reckon we should all insure our hair for some amount of money.

Wow. Certainly remarkable hair and I say good for him!
I am really astonished that his hair could be insured for that much. Hmmmmm........had I only known, at one time I might have seen how much my own hair could be insured for and when demolished be giving all of you nice MLHH members little $$$ gifts for being members.
Wouldn't that be nice! But then again, everyone knows I aim to please. :-)

And of course, as previously published here on MLHH, he is responsible for the coolest and funniest shampoo commercial EVER.
