Hey, I've been aware of this board for a long time, but I think now is the right time in my life to have some badass long hair. I've been growing it since December '09 where it was alil over 1" and spikey.
I inherited my mom's hair type; thick and wavy. I'm liking how it looks so far and it is surprising how it can change your appearance. I haven't been met with any naysayers yet, and even if I do, I wont cut it this time!

This is me with the longest I had it before this time growing it out. I was 10 months here (I dyed my hair darker brown, I'm naturally dirtyblonde).
Do you trim the back? I like this look. How often do you wash and get it 'trimmed'?
Nope, I didn't trim the back there, it kinda gets curly/wavy at the back.
Looks like it's just past your eyes which is good as I found that the most annoying part of the awkward stage. It looks good though and it should be smooth sailing from here. What length do you think you want it this point? I say it that way cause many change their mind as it grows.

I want the front to go past my chin and i'll probably trim the back to keep it even with the front. It's pretty liberating to grow it out
Looks great and you will be surprised at the many neat changes ahead awaiting you as it grows longer as you go through the so-called "Awkward Stage." Best of luck to you on your journey to long hair.

Looks good man. Healthy too. It may get a bit difficult in the awkward stage, but hang in there. It's all worth it eventually.. Also, try to enjoy every stage regardless of how it looks on a bad day.

Haha, it might sound weird to you, but I feel like i just left the 'akward' stage, to the point where it finally looks 'long'. the only time I don't enjoy it is when my hair gets messed up from an open window or whatnot. To me, over the last month, it started to get really satisfying =)

Welcome to the board and great that you've kept up in mind all this time.
The hair is coming along great and your certainly reaching the end of awkward stage for sure and should be alot easier from now on. You are vert fortunat to have thick and wavy hair and no one knows how it will turn out until it grows out. That's part of the fun of hair journey as you never know and of course each persons hair us different. I have thick and it's easy to manage that's for sure.
It's nice to hear you have not experienced any negativity and I hope it stays that way. You've certainly got good resolve and don't let them grind you down.
