I'm going to post something that happened today. This is the kind of thing we should be talking about here, maybe that way the board will get some more activity. It's not big news, the hair keeps getting longer (longer than ever every day for the past year, minus two trims), and with that a lot more tangles, it also hates moisture.
Today I tried a really "special" shampoo I bought a while ago. The brand doesn't matter, because I don't think that's the thing to get because it comes in a bundle with other unecessary products. A regular sulfate free shampoo preferably with it's matching conditioner should be enough. Well, it's the best thing ever (for hair at least). Today has been a really wet day, absurdly wet I may say, and it's the best hair day I've had in months, even better than good hair days in dry weather, no frizz and no hassle. I love it, plus it has no damaging products and it really cleans. I don't know why I didn't use it before.
I had a problem with the time between washes, with the added length and the extreme curls, the ends were getting extremely dry really soon, just 2 days, if I washed it would bring in the frequent washing issues (i.e. dryness), if I only conditioned (like I used to), and waited the full 4 days for a wash, then the roots would be oily and nasty, and no help ar all for the dry, brittle ends. It was getting really frustrating. I was about to straighten it permanently again, just to get rid of the problem, not for the right reasons, and I had come to love my curls, and I may want to straighten in the future (for the right reasons). I don't know what changed, if the length has something to do with it, or the hair changed, I don't know. None of my routines were working.
Today that changed with the sulfate free shampoo. There's a lot less lather, it feels funny in your hands and on the hair, it's significantly more expensive, but it's really amazing, and yes I can say that on the first day. The best part is, it's safe for everyday use. That's great news for people with oily hair or really fine hair, people who work out, swim or sweat a lot daily. Even for people who just can't stop washing, some people I know get really grossed out by not washing daily, no matter how much I tell them how much it harms their hair. Well, with sulfate free, knock yourseves out, you can have the freshly washed feeling every morning/night. And your hair's condition will get better and better day after day. I guess you could also wash every other day, that's up to you, but I don't see a reason not to give it a try.
Sorry for the long post, just felt like sharing.
Sounds very cool, I hope there is a sulfate free - anti dandruff shampoo !
Interesting story. Indeed a sulfate free shampoo is better. You could also try a detergent-free shampoo. (Don't ask me haw it wash, though, I have no idea...)

Great post. I have looked into a sulfate free shampoo myself and since I just ran out of shampoo and conditioner I may see about purchasing such a product. Thanks.
