Hello fellow longhairs,
I work in a factory and get extremely filthy day in and day out. I have naturally dry and wavy hair. I tried going every other day for a couple weeks, never again!
My hair is barely shoulder length. My goal is tailbone. I fear that it won't get to that length seeing all the abuse I put it through.
It's a shame because my hair loves infrequent washings. Before I got this job anyway.
I oil with olive oil twice a week, doesn't seem to help? Any pointers you pros have, I'd appreciate it very much.
I wash everyday or almost every day and the only thing I do is always use conditioner. I'm at lower back and that I'm afraid is my terminal length.
That's my experience anyway.
Kevin
Hi Kevin, Don't feel bad bro, if that was/is my terminal I'd still be smiling from ear to ear. I never slouch on conditioner, stuff is my best friend IMO!
I certainly would worry about things being terminal. Just think of all that lovely brown!
Hello,
Why don't you put your hair in a bum and wear a hat ? so you wouldn't have to wash your hair everyday.
Bye
LOL - I guess that could work!
I already do wear a hat, problem is my hair can be tied up but it's too much to fit under a hat, unless I wear a cowboy hat(stetson etc...)
Hi Michael,
Well my hair is different than yours being dead straight but I can still manage to tail it and stuff it all under a baseball cap for work with no problems. My hair is also around waist length too.So try again as you should be able to protect your hair better that way from the unniceties of your work environment.Good luck my friend.Cheers

Hi Mark, I used to be a lurker until last night. Then came out of my shell. Your posts are very inspiring and polite, thanks! I'll give it another go.
Hey Michael,I'm glad to hear you finally left that shell and decided to join us here:)I always try my best to be respectful as well as supportive to the guys here.I mean where else are you going to find it especially when it comes to growing your hair long. And by all means try and keep your hair protected from harsh environments so it can get really long;)Cheers
Mark
A buff might work for now - I use one all the time when I'm working in the garden with a hat over top to shade my eyes.

Protect your hair while you work. A friend of me has waist lenght hair and works in car maintanance. He always wears his hair under a bandana so it doesn't get filthy in the first place.
Hi Michael,
I would recommend using a mild shampoo and conditioner, or more specifically, natural products. I'm using Burt's Bees shampoo and conditioner every day and it doesn't dry my hair out at all. In fact, I get compliments all the time about how healthy and shiny it is. Essentially any natural shampoo can be used every day (in fact, I'd recommend it, since they are full of essential oils and other nourishing ingredients).
The only issue is that these products cost more than usual, but I think my hair is worth spending an extra $10 a month for :)
Good luck,
-Dan H.
I wash mine every day. I use a rinse-out conditioner and put five or six drops of jojoba oil on the ends while it's still damp. My ends look fine.
I agree with what Dan said, use a natural shampoo and conditioner, your hair will love it. I am using Burt's Bees as well.
I've tried CV bars in the past, wasn't for me. Gave them a solid month to work, just a no go I guess?
Seems natural is overlyused nowadays. I say that because with all the marketing junk in the way, it's hard to tell if something really is natural. My point is If I were to go natural shampoo and conditioner, I'd have to order something online, the real deal. Google here I come :)
Hi Michael,
I normally keep my hair tied with multiple hair ties, one every few inches of ponytail-able length. This works pretty well at protecting my hair from getting dirty and tangled. This also makes it easy to pin up or tuck out of the way if you're around moving machinery.
A bandanna or hat will offer some added protection for the hair not in the ponytail.
Blue Sky Scrubs does make a pony-tail hat that's worth a look, too.
