The reason why I started growing my hair long was because of my passion for rock music. I just wanted to know what everyone elses tastes in music was. Some of my favourite bands(in no particular order) are as follows:-
Korn, The smashing pumpkins, nirvana, metalica, pantera, slayer, placebo, system of a down, slipknot, mudvayne, machine head, coal chamber, mushroomhead, greenday, P.O.D, static x....
That was one of my reasons too. I like a range from Slayer, Iron Maiden, Ozzy/Sabbath, Guns N Roses, Queen, Judas Priest, Smashing Pumpkins, Vex Red, Silverchair, Korn, Nirvana *Awaits lecture from Rokker, and yes I know how to play their songs already ;)*, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Iced Earth, Static-X, Pantera.
Sorry for boring you all.
Pearl Jam, AC/DC, Alice Cooper, Ozzy (solo and Sabbath), Metallica, Van Halen, Disturbed (yeah yeah I know, nu-metal), Led Zepplin, Blue Oyster Cult, Aerosmith and others that I cant remember. Classical music has a big place too of course, as well as said MGS music :-)
I dunno how I missed Iron Maiden.
I wonder why nobody mentions Blind Guardian... It is definitely one of my most popular bands (for those who don't know them they are similar to iced earth - some people say iced earth and guardian are the same bands but one is from germany (guardian)and the other from the USA)
I'm from germany and i like nearly everything from rock to metal, including alternative and nu metal but i dont like these death metal things so much because i think its better if the song has something melodical in it. favourite bands (no specific order):
guardian (i told you...)
blink182
die ärzte (its a german ska band)
sguns n' roses
some in flames songs
iron maiden
JBO (again a german band - i would describe it as ... no i couldnt describe it sorry)

...And any really cool music from films, such as "Gladiator" and have you heard the BRILLIANT music from "Metal Gear Solid 2"? Absolutely fantastic! :-)
I have heard the music from metal gear solid two I think it's composed by some famous composer (not all though as I'm stuck on the three metal gear rays boss!!) Raiden, Vamp and Revolver Ocelot have cool long hair whereas Snake has a mullet.
Shoot them in the knees first and then shoot a Stinger in their open mouths. Keep cartwheeling to avoid trouble.
Rock 'n' roll man. I like to stick to listening and playing classic rock for the simple fact that music has taken a nosedive since 1982.
frank zappa

Back when my Dad was a kid, 'long-haired music' was classical music, so, the original 'longhaired musicians' are my favorites:
Bach
Beethoven
Mozart
Shubert
Handel
Dvorak
Tchaikovsky
Menelssohn
Puccini
Sibelius
and many more.
Agreed! I do also like listening to world music, among other things. Usually on the station linked below.
I'm also a big rock n roll fan although that isn't really the sole reason I started growing my hair out. I like a lot of the older rock though more than the newer stuff. I don't really like Mudvayne, System of a Down, Slipknot or any others like that. I like a lot of the 80's metal (hair bands) music. My fave bands:
Guns N Roses-My favorite band ever.
Motley Crue
Rob Zombie
Poison
Led Zepplin
Kiss
Billy Idol
Nirvana
Skid Row
Aerosmith
Kid Rock
Van Halen
Ozzy
Marilyn Manson-I don't really like him and some of the things he does but his music rocks pretty hard.
Man, I can't believe I forgot to put down Metallica and AC/DC, 2 of the best hard rock bands ever!!!
I like a wide variety of music including ancient polyphonic, classical orchestral, brass bands, beatles, queen, slade and much more. Nothing mass-produced, though!
rock and classical.
Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Grooves, Mazzy Star, The Jayhawks, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Grave, Crisis, Life of Agony, Beatles.
Some of my fav. bands are Dream Theater, Rush, Black Label Society, Corrosion of Conformity, Yngwie Malmsteen, Molly Hatchet, older Slayer. Almost anything hard rock/metal, classical or southern rock I like
I don't think music tastes have influenced my hair growing (maybe it was cartoons...) but I like:
Pink Floyd, Bob Seger, Beethoven, Nirvana, Soul Coughing, Blind Melon, Hoyt Axton, Splashdown, Counting Crows, Jill Sobule, Sheryl Crow....
most of what you've mentioned above. I really like Incubus, POD, Adema, and Nickelback as far as the newer groups go.
also Red Hot Chilipeppers, The Cranberries, Mazzy Star's early stuff,
Tool, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and Garbage from the '90's.
as for much older bands probably Judas Priest, Cheap Trick, and the Cars.
also, I'm a Doors and Hendrix fan.
I can listen to some new age/world music sometimes too when the mood is right.
I'm really surprised to see anyone else mention Mazzy Star. I hardly ever even meet anybody that's heard of them.
Korn, metallica, pantera, slayer, system of a down, slipknot, mudvayne, machine head, P.O.D, puddle of mudd, nickelback, Rob Zombie..and Classic Rock from the 70's and 80's This is just to name a few....
Mari
I like pretty much everything that everyone else listed, including classical. Not into country, rap or "boy bands" (why are they called ..bands"?). Hate prefab music (i.e. Britney S., etc).
Favorites :
Malmsteen
Satriani
Vinnie Moore
Alice in Chains
Megadeth
Dokken
Great White
Korn
Soundgarden
Judas Priest
Iron Maiden
3 doors Down
Metallica (of course)
Echo and The Bunnymen (NOT! -- just kidding!)
Mozart
Bach
Beethoven
Vivaldi
And many more....
Many don't like their music, I do, but their hair was a real inspiration: Hanson
I like their music, and their hair indeed was
an inspiration. Too bad they cut or trimmed it!
Well, I don't think music necessarily had any affect on me growing my hair longer, but anyway...
Depending on what kind of mood I'm in, my taste varies between either more recent alternative rock or classical. As far as the newer stuff, I only tend to like songs that are really melodic and a little more complex musically, as opposed to anything "catchy" or something based just on the lyrics.
My favorite at the moment is A Perfect Circle,
followed by in no real order:
Incubus, Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, Red Hot Chili Peppers, REM, Finger Eleven, Garbage, older stuff from Live and Pearl Jam, and a few from 311, System of a Down and the Deftones.
With classical, I mainly like romantic-period piano music, like Chopin, Debussy, Mendelssohn, Beethoven, etc. I also do a lot of my own composing and playing in that style, which I would like to try and get published one of these days.
Hail! My favorite bands are:
Aeternus
Arch Enemy
Bal Sagoth
Cradle Of Filth
Chalice
Children of Bodom
Dimmu Borgir
Emperor
Graveworm
Immortal
In Flames
Nevermore
Old Man's Child
Opeth
Satyricon
Soilwork
Rhapsody
Twilight Ophera
just to name a few....
I LOVE Rossini, Cimarosa, Mozart, Verdi, Strawinski, Britten.
I detest pop-/rock-/beat-/metalmusic or whatever it is called. All the same to me. However I have visited a lot of rocksites in search for longhaired men pics. It's really a problem, because there are a lot of longhaired men here, but they always like popmusic and I really can't stand it. I hate it very very much.
Some jazz can be bearable, but not that popshit. NEVER.
I also like hiphop/punk fashion (xlarge sagging baggy pants, chains, oversized shirts) but not, I'm repeating myself, the music.
I'm a bit lonesome, but not unhappy.
greetings
Glad to hear someone else loves Classical! I like heavy metal but my true love is Bach, Mozart and many others. I am actually a classical guitarist and recently been playing Flamenco. SO of course I love all things Spanish! But glad to hear of other long hair classical lovers. Later.
guitartate
Not here! I get irritated by constantly being mistaken for a rock musician - I actually play French Horn and classical is my first love. I also enjoy Greek and Middle eastern music due to my dance interests, but world music in general I also enjoy. Enya and other "new age" stuff I'll listen to also.
Country Western I absolutely DETEST, Rap doesn't even qualify as music, and most forms of Jazz turn me off cold. Dixieland, swing, "big band", etc - not here! But by far, the worst is definately Country Western...
-Zorba
I was once talking to a person who claimed to be a great lover of music. It turned out he was a Country Western fan, and I was not pleased at being told how wonderful this music is (I agree with Zorba in placing it at the bottom of the pile). Finally, I was handed a great one liner when he said 'So far as I am concerned, there is only one Country Western song.'
To which I replied 'Yes, and I've heard it.'
My apologies to Country Western lovers. I do not share your enthusiasm, but I am pleased that you get pleasure from your music.
Country music is at the bottom of my list, too. But what about Patsy Cline? Right now, she's the only good country act I can think of.
Deep down, you know you owe your long hair to them.
Thought I'd sing a different song. (pun intended) First I like country--Bluegrass,honkytonk,folk. The close second is Dixieland--New Orleans style first, then San Francisco style. Then some classical, Vangelis--New Age, early rock(50's-60's), some pop. I don't like screaming noise and don't consider Rap to be music.
