Hi MLLH!
I've been lurking on this forum for 13 months now, and countless time I've said to myself that I would introduce me. But I guess I just never had "the guts" to do it.
Well, I've been growing out my hair for 13 months now, and I've had my ups and downs. When I was about 8 years old I decided that I wanted longer haircut. I had always had a sort of buzzcut. I let it grow (with permission of my parents) just above my eyes. And I liked it alot. I kept it like that untill I was 15. Then I decided that I wanted to have even longer hair. I had always looked up to men with long hair (I think that my fascination for medieval stuff at that time played a huge role). I have some family members who have/had long hair, and I've always looked up to them and thought how great it looked. I never thought about long hair on my head though untill 13 months ago. So I finally let it grow. On the back it's past my shoulders, and on the sides of my head it has almost reached shoulder lenght. I'd show it, but I'm not keen on putting pictures of me on the internet. I'll upload one though soon. I can put my hair in a ponytail and all of that, but I don't do that outside yet.
I also have a question to ask to you guys.
I'm afraid actually, I think my ends are fine for now, but my mom keeps telling me I have the same hair as she does, a bit wavy. But she has black hair and I have blond-brown hair like my dad. And the problem is, her ends tend to split after reaching shoulder lenght, and I'm afraid that mine will too :(. She says she has tried everything but nothing works, so she has shorter hair now. Is it possible that my ends will spilt when reaching a bit over shoulder lenght based on genetics? I really hope not.
So, as promised I will put up an update soon.
Oh, btw when just before I started growing out my hair I cut it way shorter than usual :(, wish I hadn't done that, would've been about 2 inches further then already...
PS: English is not my native language, so sorry for any mistakes.
Grtz, Braezel
Welcome to the mlhh as a non lurker Braezel:)Glad you were interested enough to keep on reading the posts and to eventually post.Really its no big deal posting as we don't bite!LOL.Anyway if you decide to post a picture of yourself and your hair we all will have a better idea of how to guide you in the correct direction to care for it.It's much easier doing that seeing your mane rather than reading a description of it.I wish you the best in your journey and please do stop back again:)Cheers
Mark

Welcome to the board!!

I wouldn't worry about that too much for now. Take it one day at a time, take care of your hair, and let it grow.
You're doing just fine.

Hi Braezel,
Welcome to MLHH!!!
Glad you finally came out of the shadows of lurking, and posted your friendly and cheerful comments and questions here. As Mark (Hairball) said, "We don't bite!" (other than maybe a few of our own stray hairs now & then - LOL)....
Not everyone gets split ends. It is both a genetic thing (some folks being more prone to getting them than others), and also to some degree, a hair care issue (chemical damage being an obvious no-no that will only increase splits and other aspects of weakening hair).
Besides avoiding all bleaching, dyeing, permanents, or chemically straitening, etc., I've found that a generous application of hair conditioner after shampooing, as well as a small amount of beneficial oil applied to the hair ends (Jojoba oil, Kukui nut oil, Almond oil, or even Olive oil are all ones I've used), will help prevent split ends.
The only way to "cure" split ends, though, is to individually nip them off with scissors every time you see 'em.
But don't worry too much about it; just let your hair grow grow grow, for now at least!
Ho[pe my comments have helped!
