Hi all, I'm new and been lurking for weeks now and all I have to say is that this is an awesome community. So the reason why I'm making a thread because I have some questions. I have wavy/curly hair, it's wavy on the top than curly on the sides. I've been trying to grow it out, up to my shoulder and so far it's up to my earlobe. The problem is that with very thick hair/curly it's hard to style it and maintain it. My hair looks very poofy. I always wanted my hair straight but I don't want to straighten it every day since it will be annoying so I'm thinking of going to a salon and doing one of those Japanese straighteners that last like 6 months. I heard it's around 130 dollars and willing to pay it but my problem is that is their any cons doing this and did anyone ever do this before. Oh and by the way I have nothing against curls is just like i said before it's really hard to maintain and style, plus if i straighten it, it will be up to my neck. Thanks ;).
Hi Sam,
First of all, Welcome to MLHH!
Regarding chemically straitening your curly hair...
In the past, any of our members who have chemically altered what is natural about their hair -- whether it be hair coloring, having it permed, or straitening -- have all reported basically the same thing: it damages and weakens your hair, causing more split ends, breakage, etc. to the point that it eventually will all have to be cut off.
If at all possible, learn to love what Mother Nature has gifted you, and learn how to appreciate its unique qualities -- including how to live within its limits.
I know that I for one am always insanely jealous of curly hair (my own hair has some natural waves to it; but otherwise is basically straight); but it is always human nature to wish for whatever things we do not naturally have.
I hope my comments above have helped!
