Hi James,
People are weird. As long as you are still in the process of growing your hair out (especially while you are still going through the infamous "awkward stages"), often even some people who are "nearest & dearest" to you will do their damndest to try to get you to cut.... It's as if they are terrified you will turn into something or someone that they will no longer be able to relate to or even recognize as YOU....
But, then once your hair gets long enough so that they finally realize you are seriously committed to having these longer protein follicles on your head, they suddenly back off and stop bugging you.
Maybe it's because they've finally accepted the truth of the matter (that it's YOUR head of hair, not theirs -- and that there's nothing in the world they can do to change that fact); or, maybe because they've decided to view you as a "lost cause"... In either case, your hair starts speaking for itself at that point -- meaning, once it gets long enough to look permanently a part of you, there's a mental shift that takes place (which usually ends the hostility and negative comments)...
Hope my above comments have helped!

thanks for the positive message, james
Looks good to me. Cannot believe that you would be hassled with your long hair. Penn and Teller are so popular!
