So after my sort of update with my marathon picture, I decided I should do a full update for 5 years, although it's actually been 5 years and 2 months. I haven't realized my hair is actually a little over belt length, as I can now see in the picture of my back. I tucked my shirt in to see how long my hair is compared to my belt. I don't usually tuck my shirt in. I'm happy with how my hair looks, except that the ends look much thinner than I'd like. I'm thinking of trimming off about 4 inches from the ends to make my ends more even and thicker looking. What do you guys think about trimming my ends?
Garth, Great update. Your hair looks awesome!!!
Definitely something to be proud of!!!
peace, jonalbear
Thanks Jonalbear.

Your hair looks fantastic, Garth. It is 2 to 3 inches past your belt. I think a natural look is best. Your hair tapers to what is referred to at LHC as fairy tale ends. Trimming is ultimately your choice. My advice is to leave it alone, unless you have a lot of tangling at the ends.
The photo indicates a height of about 5'9". Based on that, your ponytail should be about 25" long right now. You can gain maybe 2 more inches of length from what I see, but your are close to terminal length.
My hair is at terminal (a 40" ponytail, including fairy tale ends) and has been for several years. I have not trimmed anything off of mine in many years.
I wish you the best on whatever your final decision is.
Scott
Long & sleek is nice
I'm with Scott (he knows) :)
Asdis who is female btw (I should make that my signature) :)
I'm actually about 5'6", so you were fairly close. I think I will have a little trimmed off, as I don't care for the fairy tale ends too much. Thanks a lot for your input.

You look taller than that in the photos. Smaller lighter people are best at long distance running. Many of the elite runners are between 5'8" and 5'10" tall and weigh from 120 to 145 pounds.
If you must trim, it is best to do it in small increments. Try maybe along your belt line first. You can always take off a tiny bit more later.
Scott
Hey Garth,
Your hair looks tremendous and based on your pics I'd leave it alone.Other than what Scott already said you should let it grow further to see what more length looks like:)At that point you can decide if you want a trim.
BTW, did you participate in the New York Marathon?I was in the city Saturday and was told it was taking place on Sunday.Cheers my friend.
Mark
Thanks a lot Hairball. Even though a few people have said I should leave it alone, I think I'm going to trim a little off. I did not run in the New York Marathon. It's a packed race and I couldn't imagine trying to get up to New York during that weekend.
Good pictures...your hair seems to be in fantastic shape for five years...and perhaps belt length is a worthy goal...which may be a good time for a trim...four inches seems like a lot but would give the ends a thicker blunt-cut look. I think you will look good either way.
Thanks Beachbum. I agree that I think a small trim will make my hair look a lot nicer and fuller at the ends. I remember last time I got a small trim I thought my hair actually looked longer after the trim. I'll be very happy with a nice even hair line at belt length.
Looking badass man!
Thanks MarkS!
Looking really great Garth!
Congrats on the 5 years of growth.
It took me about 5 years to reach waist length.
- Oren
Thanks Oren. It's hard to believe it's already been 5 years.
Hi Garth,
What an outstanding update, you have a mane to be proud of, and congrats on reaching belt length too. The others have given you excellent advice about your ends, and what you choose is up to you. Some people prefer a thick and even hairline, and others don't mind a longer look with "fairy tale" ends. Best of luck with your decision.
Keep it growing,
David
Thanks DavidN. I think I'm going to go ahead a trim a little off to give more of a blunt cut. I usually get a decent trim in the Spring, but this year I barely got any taken off, so I think I am due for a decent trim now. I do prefer the blunt cut, so I think it will work out well.
As others have said, you have beautiful hair! You're blessed with hair that has great tonal variations. On the question of trimming, you being happy with the results is all that really matters.

Thanks Dale. I do like the color of my hair. I just wish my hair was a little thicker so that it didn't break so easily.
I certainly understand that problem all too well. I have very fine and straight hair too. Besides being easy to break, fine hair tends to fly about unless its kept oiled. I suppose it could be worse. We could have clown hair. LOL
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had no idea your hair was that long -- and in awesome condition to boot!!!
I totally understand the attraction to getting a blunt-style trim at the ends (even though I prefer a more V-shaped or U-shaped look on myself).
About a year ago I saw a local guy at our new SF AT&T baseball park who had belt-length hair in a segmented ponytail, the ends of which were trimmed very cleanly at the bottom. San Francisco often being a very windy city, this guy's shiny clean brown hair was kept neatly together by the multiple hair-ties, yet looked spectacular moving around in the breeze. To this day, it's one of the most impressive heads of hair I've ever seen in-person -- and you look like you have the same wonderful quality hair, only with that great shade of red-auburn!!! (Or should I call it more like a "strawberry blonde?")
In any case, this is a GREAT update -- and my best to you in your decision to trim...
- Ken in SF
Thanks Ken. Although being having my hair called red is a pet peeve of mine. It's really just light brown or blonde.
Oops, sorry about that, Garth! It's hard to tell exact colors in pics, anyway... In any case, I think the color of your hair is AWESOME (of course, this is coming from an old geezer who misses seeing his original honey-blonde coloring, what little is still left of it on my head - LOL)
Owt weong with salt and pepper :-)
I'm with MarkS, that is a baaadasss mane Garth. With the length you have four inches would be fine, anyway belt length and lower is so impractical with sports.
cheers Dave
Thanks Dave. I took about 3 inches off and it looks much fuller and better. It really doesn't even look shorter. Thanks for the input. I also don't have the trouble of it getting caught in my belt and pants anymore. Haha.
Wow, man! That is long, great-looking hair. And, you look like you might be/have been a wrestler too, like me. I still wrestle some, and two of my opponents now have long hair too....we are taking over!
Yep, I used to wrestle in high school, back when my hair was much shorter. Thanks for the input.
