Up until tonight, I've never had a problem with people and my hair.
That being said, I was at Walmart doing my weekly ritual of grocery shopping right... I'm making my way up to the checkout. Three dudes walking behind me. Conversation went like this:
Dude: Hey man do you think your cool or something? Long hair and leather jacket
Me: Kinda hard to look cool when your pushing a shopping cart ain't it?
They all just laughed and left. I just went about my business. Thought I'd share FWIW
Wonderful retort. You effectively diffused their attempt to "get" to you.
Good comeback. The Oak Ridge Boys had a song with a similar title: It's Hard To Be Cool In A Minivan
Considering that's what I drive, you've just given me a great line to use if I ever find myself with a similar problem, lol
Thanks,
Frodo
Hey no problem man lol! Also, I too am a minivan driver so don't feel bad lmao! 99 windstar with 190K miles on it. Work car, beer go getter that sorta thing.
Wonderful response, I just LOVE it!!!
That couldn't be a more perfect reply, I'd say -- GREAT job, Michael!!

Thanks Ken! glad you liked it so much :)
What a great response, there's not much to say after that, haha. My first was when someone 3 stories up shouted "long-haired faggot!" and I acted like I didn't hear them. Find a way to provide the least amount of entertainment as possible because they want to see what kind of reaction they can get out of you.
That person sounds like all they did was make a spectacle of themselves. Takes all kinds I guess!? The best reaction is no reaction :)
Great reply!
Less is more!

Doesn't seem like you have a problem at all, they are the one's with a problem, and considering who they are, only an uneducated fool would make such a comment to you randomly in a grocery store.
What they were really trying to say was this
"Hey mister, why can you look how you want, and feel comfortable with yourself, and I have to jump hoops trying to please other people's perception of fashionable? I am not happy about they way i look and feel I need to lash out at people who are. I never learned common manners either,"
So if anything, I would say feel bad for the person you ran into. Comments like his come from dissatisfaction, and sense you did nothing wrong, it must be something about himself.
In the immortal words of Dr. Seuss: "Those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind,"

Hi Rux,
Never thought of it that way but it makes perfect sense lol! on both counts your thoughts and Dr. Seuss quote. Thanks for your comment :)
