Well i have been lurking here for a little bit now and I thought I would post an introduction here.
This is my 2nd time growing out my hair, the first time being when I was 20, and I grew it to a few inches longer than it is now. About 2 years ago I was trying out a management position and kept getting pressured from head office about my hair and cut it for this reason. I since learned that convenience store management is not for me, and that I don't think any job should require me to cut my hair to fit into their "image" of professional.
So once I left that job I started growing back out and as of the beginning of November this is the result.
I have done far less damage to my hair this time around, and listened to the hair salon less (less trims, and trimming less when I do) and I like it a lot better this time. My preference is to wear it loose most often, sometimes putting it in a ponytail or even a bun depending.
It's been great to read up here for a bit to see the great community of longhaired men!
Hi Kif and welcome to the board:)Its great when new faces jump in here as sadly we do see some departures and you have to hope they still kept their longhair.I feel for you taking that job and having to sacrifice your hair for it.Grrrrrrrrr!I bet that never would have been mentioned to a woman if she was applying for the same position. What a world we live in:(Well at least you are back on track with the hair and I hope you never fall into that trap again.Anyway thanks for delurking and great pic of you my friend:)Cheers

Yeah I always feel a little sad when I see someone with long hair cut it all off, most especially men since it's so often for a job to "look professional" when a woman would not be asked to do the same!

Well it was a real learning experience, let me say. Thankfully my current job would be more concerned if I wanted to grow a beard. They would insist I shave it, but I could have classic length hair if I wanted and it would be no issue!

Yeah, I just wish I had never cut it now, I would have so much more length.. However, I guess we will call that lesson learned, because that was my last real haircut, I've only had a few trims over the past 2 years. :)

Hi "Kif"
Wow.........that really looks great and I am glad you are growing it back. Glad you found the MLHH. Lots of great advice here. Welcome and hope you are having a wonderful weekend.
Justin~
Hey Justin,
Thanks for the compliment and welcome! It's really great that there are places like this for us to come to. Its been really interesting to read and feel the place out a bit before I introduced myself.
I watched your longhair videos on youtube, and I found them fairly entertaining, and you've got some good advice, too!
Again thanks for the welcome :)

Welcome aboard kif!
peace, jonalbear
Very nice, do you have a pic of your hair in a ponytail from the back?
Looks great. Kinda reminds me of my hair...
And don't worry about the job issue. Always do great work and eventually you will be respected no matter what length your hair is.

Welcome, Kif. Your hair looks good. It is really sad in this day and age that you would be called unprofessional for having long hair. Double standards are not professional at all, such as letting women have long hair but not allowing men to. Maybe some longhairs ought to picket that business and scare away some of their customers. If it hurts their bottom line (profit) they may be forced to change their policy, just to survive in these difficult economic times.

Welcome to the MLHH board Kif!
I guess your your first crop of hair was a "trail and learning" period.
Sounds like you're on a much better path this time around.
Looking good so far!

Hmm.. well it was probably more than a trial and error, because by the end of my last time being longhaired I had pretty much figured out what to do to not destroy my mane ;)
Basically I just needed to become more conscious of what I really wanted career-wise. A company that will accept me based on my skills/qualifications/merits, not one who will take issue with long hair on a male.
However, knowing what I learned the hard way last time, my hair has been much healthier this time around in general.
Hi Kif,
Thanks for the nice intro and hair history about yourself, as many of us here can relate to your story... You have GREAT-looking hair, by the way, and my own feelings are similar about the longer I've let my hair grow (and NOT listened to too much salon advise), the happier I am with my hair.
